My daughter had her college junior recital yesterday. A wonderful performance. I must sympathize with photographers who make a living taking stage photos. Very challenging lighting and in this case a less than wonderful background. Please enjoy.

Yes, the photography is difficult; but nothing compared to what those young artists accomplish. I speak from experience. My son has a piano performance degree from Oberlin Conservatory. Reaching that level of competency is the mystery of making the near impossible look easy while simultaneously understanding that there are very limited opportunities to use your skills in the real world. One makes music for the soul, not for the monetary rewards. Good luck to your daughter.

Nicely done series, what pieces did she play? My mom could play by ear on an upright we had.

Congratulations to your daughter and you! Considering the dark stage, your photographs are excellent.
What did she play?

The word of the day is NACHUS (nachas): A Yiddish word meaning that you are happy and proud, especially of someone’s accomplishments. Mazel tov!

Challenging maybe, but you did an excellent job. The shots are gorgeous and I bet the music was too.

This is a really nice set. I particularly like the one looking over the strings and the one of her hands mirrored. I remember how excited and nervous I was at my final recital. I felt like a queen! I'm sure your beautiful daughter did also. It's quite an accomplishment.

Congratulations to your daughter and the pictures are wonderful!
In years past I was asked to shoot several stage productions at our high school. My kids were in the shows and to make sure I was able to enjoy the performances I took the pictures during the final dress rehearsal so I would be free during the performances.
So I'm wondering how you manage to photograph your daughter's performance...it's work!!...and still enjoy the music?

She played pieces from Haydn, Copland, and Brahms, kind of an odd mix but it worked well. The stage was lit very brightly with a white cinder block wall. It took a lot of Photoshop and Lightroom. I took several of the pictures before hand. I highly recommend doing that. I would not have wanted to be up on stage during the performance. Thanks everyone fore the kind comments.

You "Done very well, Dad!!" Beautiful images!! You must be very proud of her. I attend the full season of the NJ Symphony Orchestra. I love classical music!
I wish I had been able to hear her perform. BTW: Just in case you did not notice, she's absolutely beautiful!!
Nachas & Mazel Tov!!

Excellent shots. I only noticed the white cinder block wall after reading your response and looking more closely. This type of work proves why photoshop etc. were invented. Great work.
