The Weather Was Forecast As Being Mostly Sunny, So It Seemed Like A Good Time For A Walk
We'd just had some snow come through the area, but the weather forecasters stated that the sun was going to shine. That meant to me that it was a good time for a walk, without my doggies. They usually accompany me, but I felt like being alone and not having to worry about wandering canines.
!!!!There is a graphic picture (#5) of a rabbit, not for the faint of heart, so bypass it if needed!!!!
The day started out sunny, but by the time I reached the aspen tree, it became mostly cloudy with brief periods of sunshine. The tire tracks also ended at this point, but old snowmobile tracks made the walk more pleasant, until I reached Elk Ridge, which had a lot of drifted snow. I planned on taking a short stroll, but somehow the stroll seemed to extend further and further. The whole trip up was about 4.5 miles, and back, just under 3.25 with an altitude gain of 1448 feet. Coming back I took a more direct route because it was getting dark and I'm scared of the dark (don't tell anyone. It'll be our secret).
I had thought about going into that drainage in the middle of the picture, but it's about four miles before you get to the bottom of the drainage, which is kind of tough going in the snow.

Looking back towards my truck, which is about 1/4 mile away. Luckily, some adventurous souls broke trail for me (that's the tire tracks). The ditch was either an old irrigation ditch, or they dug the ditch to build the road, or it could be both.

Ahh, the mighty aspen tree. They're pretty cool trees.

My truck is that little dot just above the treetops in the middle of whiteness.

Sorry about the gruesome picture. I came across this trapper's trap.

The trap. The rabbit is the bail and the tree branch wall gives the predator one way in to food, by way of the trap.

I hiked as far as Elk Ridge, which is a mile long park. Here the clouds gave way for a moment.

Looking towards the far end of Elk Ridge. I didn't have it in me to go any farther.

Looking back from where I came from. The sun completely disappeared after making a brief appearance.

Nice images. Looks cold, but very beautiful.
Hi tresap23, thanks for looking. It was a little cold, but not too cold and there wasn't any wind, which made the experience pretty enjoyable. The wind here can be pretty nasty at times.

Hi John, thanks for stopping by. I'm hoping people aren't getting too tired with winter scenes because we still have another five months of it.
