The error message should be displayed in red with a focus frame. You did not state what Fuji camera that you have. The manual for the Fuji XT2 states, "the camera can not focus - use focus lock to focus on another subject, at the same distance, then recompose the photo". I hope that this remedy for you error message will fix your issue. Also, make sure that you have a card in your camera and that the 50 to 200 lens is seated to your camera properly.

You may be too close to your subject. Check the small manual that came with the lens or check it’s specs online for “more minimum focus distance.”

Usually when I get this error it’s with my 60mm f/2.4 and I’m trying to focus on an object too close to the lens.
EDIT: Sorry didn’t see the subsequent post stating the same thing. I’m slow on my iPad...

FYI- Fuji has great tech support so you can call in the evening on Saturdays. I with a firmware upgrade and the tech solved the problem immediately.
