I need help identifying this bird....
Shot in September 2016 in Botswana. Finally finishing the book and this little guy has no name, yet...
Thanks.
From what I see online, it’s an Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca)
I did a google search, Botswana brown bird white wings.
Thanks spider. I had considered the Egyptian Goose, but since I was able to capture images of this bird that look like the one attached, I had to reject that identification. The unidentifiable bird has a fuzzy, darker head, no apparent neck ring and much more white on the wings. Also the beak colour does not appear to be consistent with the Egyptian Goose.
I could take the opportunity to comment on the government of the country, the persecution of the Copts, the porous border with Gaza and the infiltration of the Muslim Brotherhood - but I’ll let your “feral Egyptian” description go.... We’re thinking that the bird might be a type of Grebe.

I don't understand why you introduced that irrelevant political stuff into a simple bird ID issue. Spider223 was trying to be helpful, and if you look carefully through the photos in the link he provided, I think you'll see he's clearly right--it's a feral Egyptian Goose.
