I need help from our uhh pe10 gurus in cropping and straightning a fireworks image taken from Tv. In otherwords the final image should only consist of the fireworks image(straightened & cropped)) and not the black background which is the remainder of the screen and plastic of tv. Need the procedures to do this and if possible can you post the final processed image. Thanks!! I have other fireworks images which will need the same treatment which i will be using for a photog. class. The assignment was fireworks and the best i could do is taking them from the tv.

ummm why would you want to take a picture of an image on tv? it's never going to be print quailty or even web viewing quality.

Plus there is that whole messy copyright thing going on.

The images taken are to show at a photog. class not for print, not for entrance into a competition. Its to complete an assignment.

I downloaded your photo into iPhoto on a Macbook Pro and used the tools in that program to straighten, crop, sharpen and otherwise enhance the original a bit. Finally I put it into Picassa 3 in order to create a copy that could be chosen as an attachment to this e-mail and am sending it back to you for your info only. Since it is your photo, if you plan to publish it or make money from it, please also assume the responsibility for any copyright problems with having acquired it via a broadcast television station signal. Often programs will have a warning concerning re-broadcast of accounts, descriptions, images etc. that is directed toward any who would "steal" for profit. The whole process, now that I have got it figured out would take only around 5 minutes to accomplish. I don't bother with Photoshop any longer for 99% of my work as I find iPhoto sufficient for doing any small corrections I need from images taken with my Nikon D7000. Good luck with whatever you had in mind for your nice picture.

If you have a smartphone, see what photo editing apps are available. There are loads of them, many free.

Well, if you are using a PC computer, try looking in the web site:www.oldsoftware.com/ and see if you can find a version of JASC Sofware's Paint Shop Pro, virtually any version. Or go to www.microsoft.com and download their photo editing programs for free you can simply enter that into a search engine and come up with all kinds of editing that is either free, trial or whatever without having to spend any money or a lot of time. Any of them will allow you to straighten, resize and crop to fit whatever shape of media you want to use to display your work. Most do some of it automatically and others you have to do some input yourself. Mainly, the idea is to have fun with your camera and enjoy the results.

You can crop and straighten with Picasa. It's free.

1. Use the crop tool to select the area desired, including using the rotate capability (the curved arrow when you hover over a corner) to straighten.

2. Unsharp mask to sharpen a bit. I forget the settings but maybe 50% and 5 pix or so. Threshold 0.

3. Dodge tool (at 100%/darken) to darken the bright stuff along the bottom and to the right.
