I was looking for info on a new computer and stated that I have a boxed and licensed copy of CS6 that I wanted to install on new machine. “Don’t want to pay monthly fee”. It was brought up that Adobe does not support this product any longer and that I would run the risk of hackers zeroing in on this program, I don’t understand. Does my Norten Security not protect me?

Yes, Norton protects your system. You're more likely to be exposed to security risks by older operating systems, like people still running Windows XP, than hackers exploiting potential vulnerabilities in legacy Adobe products. The issue with older software is that no one is actively fixing any newly discovered holes in the software. If your Norton product is licensed and up-to-date and running on a supported OS, you're as protected as an individual user can expect to be. On the scale of what to worry about is whether you can install and register the CS6 software and download all the point-updates through the final update when Adobe dropped support.

Don't know about hackers but there is a lot of great new features in the cc 2018 version, I was a holdout but finally gave in and am happy with it but I do a lot of editing if you do not edit so much there are many other programs out there that do a great job and do not break the bank.

That report was from 2012, and since Adobe patched Photoshop at that point, I am sure your CS6 copy is protected

True, as of 12/31/17, Adobe no longer supports stand alone Photoshop (or Lightroom). That being said, if it fits your needs, go for it.

And, speaking about protection, Norton ain't what it used to be. You might consider upgrading to something like ESOD Nod 32

A program, like CS6, that you run from the console is probably safe. The danger usually comes from a program that you leave running to receive data over the Internet.

Unfortunately many people are struggling to keep up financially. just last month mortgage payments went up, thats around another $40 a month in the case i'm thinking of unfortunately as a couple she has regular work in winter his jobs tend to be scarce. It's fine when he has the work coming in , but not so fine when it's not. Oh and the internet company they are with has just raised its rates too.

there is only so far you can stretch your money so not paying a monthly subscription fee frees up cash for where it is needed. it won't cover the increased mortgage cost or the increased internet cost but cutting down on other unnecessary items, you get by and when times are better you can spend a couple of $100 without an issue. Even $10 a month will cut down a credit card bill often at silly rates like 30% apr or more. Just paying the interest just prolongs the pain.

This forum has a lot of retired Americans on it, we are in winter, what would be the consequence of slipping on ice and breaking your hip? Assuming you have medical cover , you still have co payments to make..

Security programs are always one step behind the hackers. You have to understand what you are protecting against...there is no getting around this.

On the bright side there is little incentive for a skilled hacker to break into an individual's system when the rewards are so much greater to hack into large entity. Don't fall for the hype. Its not your system that needs protecting from them.

While Adobe no longer supports CS6 does not mean you can not register and aurhorize it. Not supporting means not updating it (sometimes for security reasons) or its plug-in file such as Adobe Camera Raw.

Norton is not so good. It has always been a tremendous resource hog on computers. You would do much better with ESET Internet Security or ESET Smart Security if You want to protect mobile equipment also along with Your computer. I have found the best place to buy ESET is through Amazon. You can usually get a very good price on a 2 year license which will protect 3 different computers. I have used ESET for years on all My computers and have never had a problem with malware or virus.
