Have anyone tried both 100-400mm and 70-200mm with 2X extender in Bird-in-Fly photography?
Probably not a recommended practice. AF is signifcantly slowed when an extender is attached. I notice a difference even with a 1.4 III and a 500F4 over the native lens.
100% agreed with you in term of extender impacting I.Q..
I use Canon 5D2 and 7D2 for wildwife photography and use Sony mirrorless for others.
I found out Canon 7D2 with 70-200mm f2.8L IS + 2X extender outperforms 100-400mm in Bird in Fly photography using ITR Tracking. I don't know if 70-200mm has the constant aperture or a better lens outperforms 100-400mm.
I am considering to upgrade to Canon 500mm f4 for upcoming bird migration at Smith Rookery at High Island in March-April this year.
