JPEG will still have to be supported in some form.
There are at least 200 JPEG photos out there.

Don't mess with my Sony Beta-Max format ... By the way, my zip drive tapes still work fine. I am very satisfied with the compression Sony-Motiva disk camera. I do not need more than "Sony MVCFD75 Mavica 0.3MP Digital Camera"; 0.3 megapixels quite enough !

Will be interesting to see if Win10 updates include the AV1 codecs.
And while AV1 MAY arrive in time to be included in one of the later firmware updates for my 80D, my 7D Mk-1 is now legacy and will never be AV1 capable.
Neither will my legacy version of PS (and NO - I won't participate in subscription based software) ever be able to handle AV1 - -
But perhaps there will be AV1 to TIFF converters, which I can then import to PS.
While the writing MAY be on the wall - - JPG is NOT dead yet.
