I quite like this. A hint of life in a barren landscape where it seems not much could survive. The B&W adds to the mood.

That looks like a long trudge to work. I can certainly understand your being bored with winter. I’m going stir crazy waiting for warmer weather. Luckily I have a couple of indoor photography projects to work on.

I like the photo because it is well done but it also sparks the imagination. I can picture it being a book cover.

Well done !
It grips one’s attention and begins...twisting...
Super impact!

Thanks for the comments. Just a bit of fun.
The pumpjack shot was mostly to see how the Voigtlander Vitomatic behaved pointed into the sun and wind polished snow. It just needed a little something.

OK, I'm going to read more into this than may have been your intent, Dan, but that's a viewer's prerogative, right?

Many commuters spend hours a day on the highways' wastelands, so I feel the discomfort (heat, desert...or snow?!) and empty hours of mindless inactivity.

I assume the machine in the middle is an oil well pumping rig, so I'm discerning a connection between our dependence on oil and our self-induced slavery: highway commutes to unpleasant jobs that we need in order to buy more "stuff."

And I haven't had breakfast or coffee yet, so if nothing I said makes sense, just move along

Naah. Just a somewhat myopic Fuller Brush dude who hasn't figured out how to use the GPS app on his smartphone.

Hope you have had some coffee by now.

Love it! Creative, puzzling, funny, mysterious, confusing, fascinating. Also well executed. Can tell a variety of stories depending on the context of the presentation and the mind of the viewer, which is the key to creative art. Thanks for sharing this one!

To help in my education, please explain more re how this meets the definition of minimalism. Defintions I found:

1. using a minimum amount of components such as colour, shape, line and texture
2. the focus is one one small key element and the rest of the composition is completely clutter free
3. characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity

If the subject is The Commuter, there are still several strong elements that contribute to the complexity of the composition (and to the possible stories perceived by various viewers): the sun, the machinery, the vast barren landscape.

Many thanks Dan and John.

No denying that we need that awful liquid; but it is a blight on the landscape. I do, however, like the photograph. It is stark and in your face which works well with that subject. Mr. briefcase would look better on a city street; but then we would not have whimsy would we?

Oh dear. Maybe John can enlighten you on what can be percieved as minamilist. I'm not much of an academic when it comes to things like that. Someone could drive a nail in a railway tie, place it in a public space and call it art, If for some reason the opus stirred my soul I may agree, otherwise I would walk on..
