How well do they handle water?

30 minutes of water; see how well our newer cameras did. For me, one of them was no surprise.

That should help, are you sure all the cameras are eligible for consideration ;)

It would have been nice if they did a total immersion test, such as drop it in a pool. Rain is one test that happens often, but so does accidentally dropping it.

There are some braver (foolish) than me, Olympus owners that have placed their E-M5s and up under the surface of the water with no ill effects. I'm just not ready to void my warranty.

In industry there are ip ratings which range from can keep fingers from getting near dangerous parts to able to be blasted with a firemans hose and still work. In the camera world it is "weather resistant" thats pretty meaningless really i've seen Pentax cameras covered in desert sand and rinsed down in a shower. That doesn't mean it would survive being dropped in a pool. You also need the right lenses too.

resistant is one thing waterproof is another. My water resistant camera has an optional $2000 waterproof casing...

There is the waterproof Olympus TG-5 to 50 feet (deeper with housing) and a $1300 waterproof housing for my camera. This is the only way I will go under the water's surface. But rain showers and clean-up under a faucet, no problem.
