What program is needed to view the focus distance or subject distance in the EXIF info? I use Opanda & the subject distance always says "unknown". I have a Nikon D90 & D7000 cameras. I have several "D" lenses which should transmit & record this info somewhere. I just can't figure out how to retrieve this info. Can anyone help?

Try Nikon's CaptureNX2.

Exiftool is a free program that gives you loads of info. Download it, click to open it, and then drag the exe file to your desktop. To use it, simply drag the image onto the Exiftool icon.

You can also download Irfanview, a free editing program, along with its plug-ins. With the image opened, press I for some info and then press E for more.

Exiftool took me a while to be able to use.

Double-click on the download. That will open a window with two files. Drag the exe file onto your desktop. When you want to check an image, drag it onto the Exiftool icon.

As for Irfanview, I downloaded both at the same time when I got my new computer. Installing them separately looks very easy. Check here. http://www.irfanview.com/plugins.htm

When you open an image in Irfanview, pressing I and then E will show you the data.

Corel Paint Shop will display the EXIF info - Image tab, then Image Information. If Corel and CaptureNX does it I would image PhotoShop does also - do you have any of these?

Sure. First you write your message. Then you click on the Browse button below. Find the image on your computer and click on it to make the location appear in the box to the left of Browse. If you want members to be able to see the data about the image, check the "(store original)" box.

The most important thing is to make sure you do not click Preview. That will delete the image. Give it a try and see what happens.

Thanks for the help. I downloaded the plugins for Irfanview & they work fine but the distance info says " unknown". Strange, I know it's there but can't seem to unlock it. Oh well, just another of lifes mysteries!
