Hi all,
need a little help please, I took some pictures the other night and when I got home I could see them on the camera now they have all disappeared, I can delete one at a time but now they are all gone at the same time, did I do something I shouldn't have to have caused this. I have a point and shoot 565 UZ Olympus, this has never happened before, thank you for time and trouble in helping me

Could it be that you accidentally hit the delete all button on the camera? If not then it sounds like a bad card or something. Have you tried pulling the pics up on your computer? That could tell you if its the card or camera. If you find that they are gone when in the computer then you could try recovery software on the card to see if you can get some of the shots back.

thank you Tea8, I will try that
A quick scan of the instruction manual for your camera does not reveal a means of performing a "global erase", you can only erase one image at a time while the memory card is in your camera.
The only way they all could have been erased is if you reformatted the memory card in the camera, perhaps accidentally.
I lost about a quarter of my photos once when my p & s camera was new. I had noticed when taking the card out that I hadn't put it in firmly. I also saw all the pictures before deleting them from the camera (on the computer) but some were now just black rectangles. I had no further problems with the card or camera.
Just my experience if it helps. Hope you track down the problem.
thank you everyone for your imput and what may have happened, I found the pictures and I should tell you how, I was pressing the wrong button for playback, downloaded the card to the computer and there they were. again thank you everyone for helping me

Well I am glad that you found the photos and didn't lose them. I press the wrong button at times too when I go to playback. I sometimes hit the menu button and then I'm trying to figure out how I got there instead of to my pictures. Hitting the wrong button for playback is a lot better though than hitting delete all or reformat and losing them.

Taking a quick look, my P&S cameras have about a dozen buttons. Then there all those Menu choices. Go to a bridge or DSLR, and the situation gets even more confusing. I think we all deserve a pat on the back for being able to take pictures at all. :D

Just to add a point, there are several times people have lost photos on their card due using the move command instead of the copy command when up-loading to their computers. However, they are NOT lost (from the card) and can be recovered as long as their not written over.

The best way I know how to learn is to play with all the button and options and see what happens - only look out for the big red one that says, "SELF DISTRUCT"
