Adorama Used/Trade - No Deal, but They Won't Return Our Equipment

Sent very new equipment into Adorama Used/Trade dept., which was originally purchased at Adorama as new at Adorama, 1 year ago.

Received an excellent appraisal rating from Jack Gold.
Obtained current & very recent sales (past 2 months-current date) of exact equipment on Adorama’s Used website.
After bad-faith offers, attempt to offer a "used" item, rather than "new" that we wanted, and Adorama's refusal to respond to us,
we made the decision to request the return of our equipment. We've now made 2 requests for our equipment to be returned.

Adorama’s Used/Trade website states:
“If a deal is not made, we will return the merchandise to you, fully insured at our expense."
This is also in-line with what Adorama Used/Trade dept. told us (recorded).

However, after requesting twice, in writing, the return of our equipment and a UPS tracking number, Adorama will not comply with our request and is holding our equipment, requesting that we call Jack. This is not necessary, as we have in writing two requests, no deal-return our equipment.

It is abundantly clear in our written requests, that our equipment be returned to us, in the condition that we sent it, that no deal is to be made and that a tracking number be sent immediately, however, Adorama Used/Trade will not return the equipment.

There is no offer verbal or in writing, that has been accepted by either party.

We have photos and serial numbers of all equipment, have expressed in writing twice, that there is no deal with the Adorama Used/Trade dept., and yet they still will not return our equipment. All communications with Adorama are recorded and retained.

Cannot recommend Adorama Used/Trade.
Placed huge new order with Adorama, still in return window, after this bad experience with Used/Trade dept., need to return huge order and buy elsewhere.

What is unclear here is this info about returning a "new" order. If you ordered new gear against your trade-in gear that's a whole different ball game as a "deal" was agreed to in order to do that.
As the message told you, CALL them, emails are a terrible way to conduct business at any level. In addition, New York retailers are always closed on Saturdays as its a Jewish holiday.

Whining without presenting all the facts gets no sympathy from anyone.

Generally dealers aren't looking to pay much for used equipment so they can maximize profit on resale. This espeially applies to low dollar items and equipment superceded by a better model. Next time list it on Ebay.
I suggest calling the guy and telling tell him his offer is too low and take the hit on the shipping to get your stuff back to get on with your life, and chalk it up to experience.

To clarify:

(1) Not looking for any sympathy from anyone. Posted a "trader-beware" notice, so others can be aware of what they might experience. Feel free to ignore my post if you find no value to the post.

(2) Presented all the facts. Again, I placed a completely separate new equipment order, while spouse was doing a possible trade.

(3) Expecting "used" equipment to be returned, per Adorama's Used/Trade website statement, is not whining, it's a customer expectation that the company adheres to their word.
No agreement or purchase was made against that "used" equipment submitted for appraisal.

(4) I am aware of Adorama's Used/Trade dept. hours of operation.

(5) Email provides a reliable, historical account of events, eliminates misunderstandings, is legal and has been an acceptable business practice for many years. (It may not be your preference, and that's fine.)

Tell us about what happens after you call Jack, not before.

No sympathy before then ...

We already communicated that their offer was no good twice and we wanted Adorama Used/Trade dept to return the equipment, per their statement on their website. Also, their statement on their website says they return equipment at no cost and they insure the return of the equipment at no cost.
Additionally they stated on the phone to us, that shipping to Adorama Used/Trade was free to us, and the return of the equipment and insurance on the return was at no cost to us, if no deal is made. Thanks, it was just a Trader-Beware post, not a discussion about appraisal values, but Adorama not honoring their word of returning equipment.

This sounds just like the whining that happens before calling B&H.

I don't know the purpose of this call.
You don't know the purpose of this call, but make it!
{maybe they want to know if you can sign for it}

{and if you don't like what you hear, then tell us about it}

Hmm..interesting.
Not whining. Didn't ask for sympathy. A "Trader-Beware" post.

As soon as a customer requests to have equipment returned, a company should adhere to their posted policy.

FYI:
The company is able to utilize Email, as they have used this method with me in the past.
There is no further need for discussion after requesting no deal and a return.
If they need a signature, they can put that in an email.
Having shopped at Adorama in the past, I have watched the tracking UPS info & been available to sign.

Enough said. Please ignore my advisory post.
No more posting from me.

Adorama has an excellent ombudsperson who also happens to be a respected member of UHH. She has been very helpful to me personally in working out a sale/trade issue. Her name is “HelenOster” suggest you send a brief PM to her outlining just the facts (with less flowery, defensive language) and see what she says. She has been a terrific resource for many UHH members. Adorama is a fine, upstanding company, but any company responds better to a simple factual presentation in situations involving a misunderstanding. /Ralph

You were asked to call Jack but opted to join UHH instead just so you could whine. When we hear things like this about a trusted dealer one thing comes to mind. What's the rest of the story?

We should all thank the OP for warning us that if we deal with Adorama we may have to make a call.

You keep defending your position but won't call them. What do you have against picking up the phone and seeing if you can straighten this out? Your approach seems very odd. I don't think Adorama is going to do anything until they talk to you, and I can't blame them. Something is missing in this story.
