Avoiding duplicates from Aperture to Lightroom

Hello Hogs -

I tried to discover this answer myself but have had no luck.

I have many duplicate photos in Aperture, having the same file name. Is there a Lightroom setting I can check that will eliminate duplicates of my ENTIRE library as I migrate it to Lightroom? I would like to figure this out before I begin.

Thank you in advance for any information you may provide. ~ Eileen

From the Adobe site:

Ignore duplicates when importing
Lightroom Classic CC determines a photo is a duplicate of another file in the catalog if it has the same, original filename; the same Exif capture date and time; and the same file size. You can instruct Lightroom Classic CC to disregard duplicate files when importing.

In the File Handling panel on the right side of the import window, select Don’t Import Suspected Duplicates.

Lightroom has a check box in the Import dialogue for "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates." Did you try checking the box?

Although LR will "avoid" loading duplicates during the import, it seems you have a fundamental issue in knowing which is that master / original (or simply best) version of the images as stored in Aperture. How do you plan to address this question? The first version successfully imported to LR needs to be the master so that all duplicates are rejected, whether exact copies or inferior copies.

I like DuplicateFileFinder - very versatile.

Interesting....if you truly have the files with the same name that would say to me that file name is not an important part of keeping track of the files as it is not in itself unique. I am not familiar with how Aperture handles files and their naming of versions but you have stimulated my bump of curiosity this cold January morning. I may have to investigate further...with my assistant Google. I think you have received the correct advise from the Lightroom standpoint though.

Best,
Todd Ferguson

Thank you all for your responses. I think I just have to take the plunge and bring them over.
