Thank you for your post and calling to the WW museum. Time will be well spent there if you are in the New Orleans area

Would like the story behind the name "Sudden Jerk" on the boat.

The Navy only assigned letter and number designations (PT 305) but the crews were allowed to give their boats nicknames. They were backing the vessel into it's mooring spot but was coming in to fast and hit the dock rather hard. The sailors said that was a "sudden jerk" hence the nickname. the nickname suck from 1944 to into 1945 when a new crew then nicknamed the vessel "Half Hitch". These PT boats were designed and built by Higgins Industries in New Orleans.

Hope this answers your question.

I'm reading a book titled "Close Quarters" . It's a complete history of the PT boats from concept, through the war and after. Has complete listings of the boats, crews, and the actions, and results. I recommend it for anyone interested in WWII history.
