Linda,
You are correct, so I didn't loan them. I gave her the a77 and a slew of Sony & Minolta lenses when I changed to Nikon! 😁 Cheers,
Don

Thank all of you for your suggestions. Sometimes, it's not always wise to loan your children expensive equipment. Linda
Somehow I'm getting in a bit late on this one. Apologies that I didn't see your posting earlier, but if you're still interesting in getting the Minolta repaired there's a one-man camera repair shop just up the street from me. The fellow did an outstanding job on my Minolta. The film advance had jammed. He not only repaired that but checked the calibration on the light meter and cleaned the camera as well. I don't know where you are, so he might be a little out of your way since it's in Arizona. Bob
It is a little out of my way. I live in wild wonderful West Virginia. But mail still works. Is he expensive and do you think he would work on mine. I would appreciate if you could find out and let me know. Linda
Now that I reread your message, I believe that is what mine does. it sticks on rewind and drains the battery. Linda

The good news is, he does take mail-ins. The bad news is, he says he doesn't like to work on some entry-level cameras because they used plastic parts that simply wear out. He doesn't have those parts in stock and he has a difficult time getting them if he can at all. He named several brands that made their entry-level cameras similarly. The 3000i was one model that he knew very well. He recognized your problem instantly and really would not like to work on it because he would have to charge more than the camera is worth even if he can find the parts. He recommended that you look for a 5000 or 7000 model if you want to stay with Minolta. Anyway, he's a very friendly fellow and will be happy to chat with you if you like: email or phone.

Thank you again for being prompt with the info. I will contact him via phone or email. I had and used the camera many years and know my husband pay a good sum of money when he got it new. Thanks again! Linda
