American Bald Eagle

Taken this morning. Eagle flew from nest directly at me and landed in a pine tree not 15 feet away. Selected a branch and flew back to nest. This pair has had to relocate their nest due to takeover by great horned owls. They are now battling ospreys because the eagles are using a nesting platform claimed by the ospreys last year. Lotta drama.

Looks like they possibly took over an osprey nest in the last photo, as noted in your post! They usually win from what I've been told!

I enjoyed viewing these images!
I've seen a few images of eagle nests. This is the
first time for me with this type of a nest platform.

Hope you meant the eagles usually win!! Osprey are persistent though. Yesterday the osprey got to the nest and started throwing out all the nesting material the eagles had added. Eagles came flying in and the ospreys took off after dive bombing the eagles a couple of times. Eagles immediately began rebuilding and this morning continued. Osprey circled, but never attacked. This nest is WAY behind last year due to GHOs taking over existing nest around 12/8, original female disappeared so this female is new and about 4 yo. Last year they had eaglets around New Years, this year don't even have a complete nest.

First time for this pair as well. Lots of drama this year. Original pair returned in September, female disappeared end of November with current female replacing her only about 4 yo. Then nest in tree was taken over by great horned owls around December 8. This left new, young female and experienced male homeless at egg laying time. They started building on osprey platform and the osprey have done everything they can to discourage the osprey, but the osprey are persistent. In northern FL the eagles use cell towers and electric towers to build nests due to lack of trees in the area. Where there is a will there is a way and Mother Nature is the creator of invention!!

Thank you, it's been an interesting season with this year. Two years ago the original eagle pair lost their nest to Great Horned Owls 2 weeks after eaglets were hatched. So, they started building a nest across the street which successfully raised 2 eaglets last year. This year original nest (taken over by GHOs) was blown down by Irma (bad Irma) so the owls were on the prowl for a new nest. The original pair did restoration at new location, followed by restoration by new female and original male. They were just about to lay eggs when GHOs came along. At least no eaglets were harmed. Now the eagles are attempting to take over the osprey nesting platform and the ospreys are putting up a fight. The next concern is that this light pole with the platform is between 2 baseball fields and a soccer field. Osprey don't care, eagles??? We shall see what happens. If the eagles don't lays eggs soon it will be too late and this season will be a bust. Watching this nest is like a box of chocolates.....you never know what you are going to get!! PS: I have thousands of eagle photos because I usually see them at least twice a day!!
