I have LightRoom 6 and my machine crashed, so I went to reinstall it. No big deal it is a licensed registered version. I downloaded the same version from Adobe's website, I entered the key that was stored on their website and it said it was invalid. After wasting an hour on chat with them as it turns out when you purchase LightRoom, although it does not expire you can't reinstall it after a year. Naturally it is because they want to sell you their Cloud Version. As far as I am concerned this is the lowest of low. If they don't want to support it, it is one thing. But to not let you use it is just plain wrong. I don't know what to go with but it will not be an Adobe product.

If the OP PURCHASED Lightroom, as he said, WHY would a clock have anything to do with it no longer working??? You lost me!!!

I upgraded to Lightroom 6. To install on a new system I need to first use the original code and then the upgrade.

Yes, Adobe is always trying to dispel rumors.

If anyone does even the simplest of searches he/she will land on an Adobe site withing a few clicks. Untrue rumored allegations vaporize quickly.

But there are plenty of sites that can be stages for those that want to "get even" or attack "the monster". Beliefs and prejudices frequently dominate and will actually get support from other frustrated users.

One really difficult rumor to stop is that Adobe has "stopped supporting" the perpetual versions of Lightroom and Photoshop. What is not a rumor and very true is that Adobe has stopped upgrading and updating the perpetual versions. Supporting, upgrading and updating all have different meanings.

Check out the latest version of Corel PaintShop Pro. You'll like it and won't have this problem.

Yes, some software did do that in the old days, that trick might work on timed trials but the newer timed trials were not dependent on the internal clock, and like I mentioned, if you purchased a license, why would it end?

The last software with a simple date check using a system clock was maybe back in the dark days of DOS I think :)

I left LR quite a while ago. I find that Capture One Pro suits my needs better than LR and they have improved the DAM aspect greatly.

I have a similar story - only it involves a couple thousand dollars! I purchased CS4 - the Master Suite, then when CC came out, I "upgraded???" When I decided to unsubscribe, Adobe told me I could only do it at a specific time during the year (they whacked me for over half a year that I didn't use it), then when I went to reinstall CS4, I couldn't because I had "used" that to "upgrade".

I now run Ubuntu Linux and all my photo (and other) software is free.

I'm still using CS3, its so old that no one cares, nothing gona bother me.! On the other hand I just downloaded Luminar at a special deal with add on for $69.00. I was impress by photos from someone in Oregon that used it. I'll see what I can do with it. Capture One is another one I would consider. Corel Paint Shop Pro another that's getting good reviews. NX2 is really nice to work with. There's a lot of ways to go here. To tell you the truth I'm a little scared of using LS or CC with all the trouble eveyone is having. Paying $9.99 a month x however many months your talking about is a trap to me. Buy it. Own it, why should I be at the mercy of Adobe "RRS" and pay a tax for the next 20 years = to $2397 and 76cents. I'm sure the price will go up over 20 years. I'll rather buy a nice camera and lenses with that and use other products that don't take you prisoner in the process.😠 Its not that I don't like PS or LR its just that I don't like to be taken for a ride. Windows 10 was a free download..... but what's up with that, 😞 are they going to say free rides over now pay up if you want to use your computer or we will locked you out. 😲.. Is there a virus that does that..? 😨 I know I falling of the deep end here but that exactly where they want us to be. Its just a photography program for pete sakes
😩....!

I love it - with 1 or 2 posts, by people that obviously have a problem, it is turned into Lightroom and Adobe are terrible....and in most cases, the problems turn out to be operator error. Many times just simply not getting their heads around how to use Lightroom's catalog, which frankly is pretty simple.

Well, I have been using Lightroom with the Adobe CC subscription since March of 2014, so far, the monthly cost has remained exactly the same, $9.99, and for that sum I get Lightroom, Bridge & Photoshop. That sort of calculates out to a cost for 4 years of a total of $479.52 - not even the cost of a copy of Photoshop. The best part, the software is constantly updated with all the new features and I know that I have the top of the line products always up to date and maintained.

Will it go up? Possibly, maybe probably, if it becomes too costly there are options out there of course. Its all a cost/benefit analysis everyone will need to do for themselves.

BTW - You never OWN software (unless you are the author of the software of course)... you either subscribe or you purchase a perpetual license to USE it, but no, you never buy it and own it - read your license agreement next time to buy software.

I guess it all depends how big of a pro you are, because its not just the camera and lenses but post-processing brings it home and you have to have the right tools for the job So how pro I'm I with CS3..! (joke)

You got the best advice for future downloads.ALWAYS copy the download to another independent drive to save it, then copy the serial/ install code to word or pdf. Do this to all your downloads. It will be worth the effort. Also, you Do Not own any software, you are Licensing it only, they can do pretty much what they want. Trust me I know all this from years of experience with crashes and formats.

I date back to the dark days of DOS. Actually I have defeated these time challenges in software back about 10 years ago. It was a thought.
