Are these cameras going to be compatible with existing lenses?
What Nikon mirrorless cameras?

If they do, then why bother? They won’t be taking advantage of the advantages of the mirrorless “design”. The removal of the mirror allows the lens to sit much closer to the sensor which is one reason why a new line of lenses is ideal. There will always be adapters that allow their usages—but the trade offs will be glaring.
Unfortunately, Nikon has been stuck in the past and the majority of their “new lenses” seem to be “redesigning” the same lens. Look at the number of versions of the 18-55. Yikes.
Fuji in the past four years has added a strong line....something like 27 new lenses—not lenses with one added feature or improvement—but an entirely new lens.
And we still having seen an ASPC mirrorless body.....

Time will tell, but I doubt it.
I feel like Fuji and Sony and even Panasonic are leaving Nikon to eat their dust
It will be interesting to see if some of the othe lens makers come up with competing glass.
I think for Nikon to make a dent in the mirrorless world they will have to come up with something that is really innovative. While their latest hits in the DSLR field, D500 and D850, may deserve the accolades, they were evolutionary as opposed to revolutionary.
Nikon's latest business plan calls for concentrating on higher end products. If they stick to it, it could be interesting. All I have read so far are rumors.

As Jerry says ...... doubt it ! Nikon has lost a lot of ground, and credibility, from their first foray into "mirrorless", and, whatever new product they are about to produce (still no news), it will take time for them to rebuild credibility for what may be a complete new system or one which gives existing lens owners the opportunity to use their lenses.
Further, I feel that 3rd party lens makers will want to "watch and wait" before committing R&D expense to an as yet unproven camera.
Yeah, Nikon has made some huge errors with mirrorless !
I am a lifetime Nikon guy starting with the Nikon F2A manual pro camera. For most of my work I use my Nikon D810 and D7200. But recently I have made the jump to mirrorless. I went to the leader in the field Sony. I purchased the Sony A6300 which my wife now uses in favor of her Nikon and I use as a backup for things when I need it. It is a great camera. Spend the money and get it. And my wife loves it because it is so small and light and can shoot 4K video and 10 fps. Also it is great for me not having to carry both of my cameras, I carry this with one of my other cameras.

An interesting read and it seems to dispel idea that the mount would need to be changed.

Yes, they are, with the right adapter.

If you read the link that Joer posted there is a possibility you would essentially see a mirrored body with mirror removed.... NO ADAPTER needed; just a somewhat boxy design but saving the mount for mirrorless. All lenses would still be viable. Seems like a reasonable approach but the result may not be as small or ergonomically designed as some might want.
