Part of the charm of our north coast is to be found in the little town of Mendocino as well as in some of the state parks. Besides the normal architecture, I love a little lighthouse at Pt. Cabrillo and the caretakers' cottages that are now available as vacation rentals.

Hope you enjoy these.

Beautiful series Vicki, love that old hippy town, they have some great restaurants there.

I wouldn't mind staying in one of those cottages. Looks like a wonderful place for vacationing.

The rentals by the lighthouse are pretty large and probably fairly pricey. We didn't check. Too many sightseers walk by, so they're not very private. Other rentals in the area are more isolated and just as appealing.

Very nice series, but the lighthouse is the star of the show. Well done!

I've taken lots of shots of that lighthouse, often waiting for the light to shine. Many dot the coast, but this one is a favorite of mine because it's so well maintained. There is also a network of lovely hiking trails surrounding it.

Many thanks for taking a look and commenting Bill. I appreciate your time.

Terrific set, Vicki. I love the blue house and the lighthouse. The lighthouse has 2 protrusions from the roof facing the water. I don't know what they're called, but I think they are there to catch the sea breeze and funnel it into the building.

I wondered what those things on the roof are and suspect you're right. They look like they would rotate with the wind. There are so many vultures in the area, I look at the vent covers and think the vultures are perched on the roof. LOL

Thanks for the thoughtful reply Tom. I'm glad you enjoyed the shots. That blue house is a real eye catcher, and I couldn't help but get shots from many different angles.

A beautiful place Vicki. I love the subdued lighting. Well done. I hope the next to last shot isn't of a rental!

Glad you enjoyed these Doc. I'm sure the next to the last shot could be rented, but character comes with a price.

Brings back memories! We were there overnight about six years ago: stayed in a very nice B&B off of Main Street and next door to a great small restaurant named, if I can recall Beaujolais. Had a great and told the chef so!
We were also to that the town was used for “Murder She Wrote” starring Angela Landsbury! Supposedly a little town in Maine on the seashore.
I took many photos including the Lighthouse and my wife and I sitting on a park table above the shore. It’s on canvas now on on our wall.
Thanks for the memories!

We've eaten at Beaujolais a number of times in the past. This trip we ate lunches out and dinners in. Jenny's Giant Burgers is a drive-in at the north end of Ft. Bragg and not to be missed - best hamburger north of S.F. What it lacks in atmosphere, it makes up for in flavor, and it's much less expensive than Beaujolais.

Yes, parts of Mendocino were used as backdrops for "Murder She Wrote." In fact there are quite a few places on the north coast that have been used as settings for movies and TV. "The Birds" and "The Russians are Coming" come immediately to mind.

I'm glad you enjoyed these Hugh, and they brought back pleasant memories.

Mendocino certainly has a charm and distinctive style as well as a number of good restaurants that have managed to maintain their quality. Over the years we have tried them all. And don't forget a nice ice-cream parlor on the main street.

I think the area is particularly appealing in winter.

Thanks for taking time to respond to this post Mike. It's always great to hear from you.

Thanks, Vicki. I think I would call them "Wind Tubas".

Many thanks my friend. I have to wonder whether you've ever visited this part of the coast. The Monterey area is closer for you and has its own unique appeal. It was a place we considered and about equal in terms of driving time.

Hi Vicki, I have been there many times with my husband and children, but that was long ago. I haven't been there in quite a while, but I always enjoyed the coast highway drive with its wonderful views.
