It looks like I need to replace my laptop soon. Are any of you using a laptop for post processing and organizing your photos? If so, what is your configuration? Any specific recommendations?
Thanks

Budget.

Under 1,000 you get a decent laptop.
Over 4,000 you get a semi-decent mac book. (kidding - I just cannot help but kicking those 'elitist' guys and their over priced toys...)

IF and only IF you are serious about getting great hardware and do not mind the premium, look for gamer's PC. They are fast, incredibly versatile and surprisingly long lasting.

Err long lasting hardware advantage... When it comes to the battery, better make sure you have a plug around, these thing smoke their batteries like a Californian smokes his recreational weed.

I had 2 laptops, one originally to travel and process, too big and too heavy, bought a smaller lower power travel laptop, just replaced my processing laptop with an all in one from HP, much better processing, SO DO YOU REALLY NEED a LAPTOP? is the question

I do need a laptop as we travel quite a bit and I often like to at least start processing wheile we are traveling. I plug in a larger monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse when working at home.

Thanks for the reply. I would like to be under $1500 and want to stay with a PC since I have a lot of functional software I can reload on a new machine.

I use my Samsung laptop. It has a 17" screen. 1 TB hard drive. 8GB processor. There are better ones on the market now. Would have liked to get a gaming machine, but too expensive at the time.

Two years ago my laptop died. Was 5 years old. I picked up a cheap HP (15") from BBuy (under $300) and later added a 250GB SSD. Flawless. I keep all my files in external HD's. Here at home I view on a 24" Samsung monitor.

I’ve had excellent long-term value and reliability from Dell. Minimum specs: I7 processor, 16GB DRAM, separate video card with 2GB VRAM, 500GB SSD, 2-4GB HD, Windows 64 bit Professional. Gbit Ethernet/WiFi, several USB 3.x ports, mini display and/or HDMI video ports are a given. A BluRay/MDisk drive is a plus. These are minimum requirements. I9 CPU, more DRAM, bigger SSD are all positives. You should easily be able to get this machine within your budget.

HP Pavilion. 17" screen, AMD A-8, 5550 64bit quad core, 8 GB ram, 1 TB HDD, WIN 8.1. It still has enough horsepower to edit RAW just fine.

Getting on in age and my Western Digital portable HD is full. Time to upgrade soon. I'd like something similar.

Dell XPS15 with 32 Gb Ram and a 2 Tb SSD. Forget the touch screen monitor and concentrate on performance. Ain't going to be cheap, but then good tools never are.

I am happy with my HP Envy 17 inch 1TB 16Gb Ram. The 17 inclaptop is quite heavy so I would recommend a 15 inch if traveling. About $1000.00 new.

Last November, I purchased an Acer Helios 300 Predator gaming laptop. Full HD with a 17.3" monitor. 16GB DDR4 + 1 TB HHD + 256GB SSD. They claim up to 7 hours battery life. I haven't tested it that long yet, but have used it on battery alone for four hours. No CD writer/reader, but does have a slot for reading memory cards. I use it primarily for image post processing using Photoshop Elements 15. Am impressed with the images and the speed. Moderately priced (I think) at $1359 on Amazon.
