I use "The Photoshop Elements 15 Book" by Scott Kelby. There may be other editions for other versions. I looked at many other books, but this one was easiest to follow...and at my pace.

I use Scott Kelby's book on Elements 14. I can't say for sure if it's the best out there because it's the only one I've used but I'm quite happy with it. Been using it for about a year.

Simple introduction: “Elements, this is Dr. Billy. Doctor, this is Elements. The doctor works tirelessly in the health care field. Elements has something to do with photographic arts”

Depends upon how you learn....Some can retain info whilst reading a book - others need to 'do' as instructed.
I found that deciding what I needed to do to an image FIRST and then doing each stage by following instructions gave me the image I wanted and by repetition made me adept. In PSE there are usually two or three ways to do everything. So vary your search with the 'thousands' of sites online.

PS PSE has been running for years - the basics have not changed so any version of scott kelby books will do..search for 2nd hand and save some cash.

Once you get the hang of it, HOW to do things is simple.....HOW MUCH to do takes a bit longer....Keep an eye on winning competition images on UHH each month - that way you will see 'onscreen' how subtle you have to be.

have fun

Have you tried clicking on "Help" from the top menu. Tutorials and the entire manual are available.

If you are a visual learner you'll find these video tutorials useful:
http://howtogurus.com/index.htm
You can also find these videos on YouTube.
I've had great support from them for example, I posted a question and 7 minutes later I had a response and was able to move forward with my project.

Adobe publishes a book entitled; "Photoshop Elements, Classroom in a Book. I got one when I took a class at a local community college and we worked from the book. It included a CD/DVD with projects and is available for most of the Elements editions. When I looked, I could find nothing about whether or not the CD/DVD still came with the book. Amazon offers the option of renting the book.

I'm self-taught with Elements. Started with 11 and upgraded to 14. Mostly skipped using Quick mode, used Guided and then went to Expert. Still use Guided for things I can't figure out in Expert. Adobe's Help site is marginally helpful. YouTube and my curiosity have been my friend. The hardest part was figuring out where things were going, how the Catalogue and tagging worked. Those were important to me in addition to editing.

I have received much help from Rick Peterson, who runs this site. Very clearly explains methods, step by step, good videos, etc. Check it out at: http://www.essential-photoshop-elements.com/

Both Scott Kelby's books and Rick Peterson's tutorials are superb. You would do well to use both and not pick just one or the other.
