I'd save them the size you want them to be printed. Additionally, most printing places request a resolution of 300 dpi, which also works for home printers.

I don't "save" at all. I use the Print module to make prints at 13x19 on a Canon Pro-100.

Are you making file for a print service? Are you printing on your own printer?

No I go to Walgreens to get my pictures printed today some of them the printer would not print when I downloaded them from light room I did not do nothing but download so I assume they need some kind of size

Doesn't Lightroom have an Export module for that? It should allow you to choose the size and resolution you want to give to the printer.

Properly employed, LR becomes a repository of all our images. If we want to do anything kinda special with any of our photos, it will usually involve using the export function. There is no ‘Save’ nor ‘download’ from LR. There’s only ‘Import’ and ‘Export’.

There’s a dialog that opens when you choose to export. Most entries are intuitive, but if you have question about any of the entries, post them back.

You can do this in LR. If it were me, I’d make a virtual copy of the image so as to keep the original intact. Then, on that copy, I’d crop it, setting the aspect ratio to 5x7, making sure I got everything important in the photo during the crop. Then, I’d do the export to a thumb drive to take to Walgreen’s.

During that export, that intuitive dialog comes up, but you may have questions about some of it. The most important thing will be to select your thumb drive as the destination. Most of the defaults will likely work for you.

Questions? Ask.

I presume you are taking these to Walgreens on a flash drive. Lightroom will allow you to save each image at 5 x 7 and 300 pixels per inch, but first you have to crop the images to those dimensions. You simply click on the 'export' on the left side of the screen, and when the export dialog panel appears you set the size and pixel density then export to your desktop. Then assemble all of your images on a flash drive and tell Walgreens to print two 5x7 print per sheet of paper.

You print within Lightroom. There is no save function. If you want to share your images you use the export function.

I have questions about this that I haven’t answered for myself. Your recommendation is entirely logical, but I see hurdles.

The original image will likely have a 3x2 aspect ratio. To get to 7x5, we must crop or live with a distorted image. If we crop, how does this setting do the cropping? How does the user get say-so in what gets thrown away?

Secondly, if we’ve chosen multiple images to export, of varying orientation, and we’ve specified a 7x5 image dimension, what happens on those images with portrait orientation?

Just curious.

The size, in pixels, of your image for printing is determined by the size of the print and the expected viewing distance.

http://www.photokaboom.com/photography/learn/printing/resolution/1_which_resolution_print_size_viewing_distance.htm

You will need more ppi for prints viewed closer.

For 8x10 viewed at 11" you'll need 300 ppi or 2400x3000 pix, and for a 40x60 viewed at 9 ft you only need 32 ppi, or 1280x1900. This is probably the most misunderstood fact - as in supported by measurement and science - in the entire field of photography.
