Leaders of the FREE world??? In some things you're still living in the dark ages. We've been pumping our own fuel, petrol & diesel, cars & trucks, for years now.
We've also switched to metrication too. Kilometres, litres, kilograms etc, sooo much easier.
Oh, sorry a dozen eggs is still twelve, & a day is still 24 hours.

wait until that $15 an hour minimum wage kicks in; then you'll see those pump jockeys disappear real quick!

It is funny, but what people don't realize is that there are two Oregon's.

In the last presidential election seven counties voted for Clinton and 29 counties voted for Trump. The trouble is those seven counties have more voters than the other counties do. The pumping gas stuff is the same thing. The eastern, southern, and a few coastal counties are all good with pumping our own gas, and in some cases already have exceptions that allow it.

The rest of the state unfortunately is filled with people who want to be served all the time and don't want to do any work of their own. They want big government and massive regulations.
The rest of us don't.

It's funny, but it's also pathetic.

Illinois has a similar split. Although more due to the powerful grip of the Chicago political machine.

Warning to those new to self-pumping! No self pumping in NJ and about a year ago a friend of mine who doesn't drive out of state much was driving his new car South and stopped in Delaware for gas. He filled the tank, started on his way and the car died about 100 yards outside the gas station. He had the car towed to the closest dealership and found out he had filled the car with diesel. He says that he just went to an available pump at the gas station and filled the tank.
I always thought there was something in place that would prevent this...other than the sign on the pump...that the nozzles were different size, color, etc. He said it looked just like all the other pumps and he didn't notice the price difference. An expensive mistake!

Back in the 1970s I worked at one of the major oil companies in West Sacramento, CA dispatching those truck/trailer units delivering 8500 gallons of gasoline to the service stations, among other jobs. That was when they started with unleaded gasoline. The stations had three storage tanks, one for regular leaded gas, one for unleaded and one for premium. Every once in a while the driver would screw-up and pump the leaded regular into the unleaded tank. When that happened we would have to send a truck to the station to pump out the unleaded tank and flush the lines then fill the tank with the right stuff.

I very, very seriously doubt what you just said above. I would love to see some real data to backup that assertion.

Here's why I doubt it.
(You can view the data I used here: http://www.governing.com/gov-data/census/state-migration-rates-annual-net-migration-by-state.html)

The most recent data in that chart is 2015-2016.
The state which received the most people from other states is Florida: 326,000.
The next state is Texas: 217,000.
The third state is Washington: 91,000.
The fourth is North Carolina: 80,000.

Oregon is further down at 57,000. In other words, it wasn't anywhere near the top: Florida got over 6X the influx you got and Texas got 4X your influx. Heck, Washington got almost twice as much as you did.

So unless something drastic occurred in 2016-2017, you can see why I don't believe you.

I have some older people around me that in the winter and possibly other times would find getting out of the car to pump gas a true hardship. I believe stations should have the option of offering full service as they did years ago possibly on one pump or section and charge a little more for that service. You hear of people getting robbed or cars stolen while the driver is out of the car and if you don't use a credit card, some places do require a trip inside. I don't think any state, city etc. should control this function or business option.

[quote=RainierView]I live in Washington state where like most of the country we pump our own gas. When traveling south I always fill up in Oregon. Fuel is cheaper there even though they pump it for you. You have been allowed to pump your own if diesel, but why if they'll do it.

I have a custom paint job on my truck and no retard is going to work out on it with the nozzle or hose it down with fuel .

I am not aware of ANY state law or city ordinance anywhere that would prevent a gas station from providing full or partial service. I can't help but wonder how people in Oregon think the vast majority of the population actually copes with self serve gas pumps.

I can just see the nanny state of Oregon forcing gas stations into providing braille instructions on the self-serve pumps for the blind drivers.

Mostly Californicators who tried to escape but brought their politics with them. They are now targeting Idaho. Fortunately real Idahoians are equipped to fire back.

Look at the numbers as a percent of the State population. That is what residents see and feel.

I was waiting for you to bring that up.

In 15-16 the top state by percent of population was Florida and they had over 6 times the actual amount compared to Oregon. It's very possible that Oregon passed Florida in the last year in that metric; things are getting very bad in Kalifornia so the exodus (or rather the exchange of taxpayers for migrants) continue.

However, that was not the metric you used in your statement, you said: "Oregon did have the biggest influx of new residents of all US states in 2017." Even if you did capture the top percent by population, your state's population is very small in comparison to others so that metric is very misleading. We have a larger population in just Harris County (4.6M,) then you have in all of Oregon (4.01M).

They could not support themselves. Who will help pay for all the illegal aliens and the rest of their dumb ass programs? Now California is a sanctuary state. How stupid is that??

I take it that people in Oregon obviously have never in their lives dive outside of the state.
