I thought/hoped that they would postpone the January 1st Mummers' Parade due to extreme cold... but they went ahead, even though the first marching brigades came by at 6 degrees F.

I went out with my new Olympus TG-5 Tough which is rated down to 14 degrees F. However, my bare fingertips don't go that low, so I could only last through two brigades before I felt frostbite setting in. I've had bad frostbite, so I recognize it. I was shooting too rapidly to use gloves or mittens.

This gentleman belonged to one of the "wench brigades". The parade moves slowly, so they march for hours. Most carry cans of beer which may act as antifreeze.

Great shot. Sorry it was so cold. My wife and I moved to the area (Valley Forge) just over 3 years ago from Arizona. We "discovered" the Mummers 1/1/2015. They are awesome. We watch them (from the warmth of our couch) every year. We are still not acclimated to this serious cold and ready to go back to AZ. Will certainly be watching them every year for the rest of our lives.

You ought to do it once. The street was still packed. You layer, bring a thermos full of coffee and your camera. I've lived in Center City for seven years but never saw a Mummers' Parade even nearly as frozen as this one.
