Has anyone been in the chapel and taken pictures? My sisters husband has a friend that works in the chapel and is willing to show me around. I was wondering if there is anything in particular that I should look for . Any special angles ,time of day, special lenes, etc, or anything I should do besides being respectful. I am taking my 87 year old father . I hope he enjoys it. Thank You all for any help.

Before anything, if this is on base, consult the public affair officer. They may not be all that thrilled if someone sneaks in w/o their knowledge or consent. This is what I do when I go on base with the intent to take any picture.

I don't know what Air Force Academy Chapel your talking about, but if it's federal or government property it's against the law to take pictures, you best better check first.

Photos of the chapel abound. I can't believe they are illegal.

Back then it wasn't a problem, sometime after 9-11 there was a new law, in this case it sounds like it's ok, I just didn't won't him to get in trouble.

Shouldn't think it should be any problem taking photos in the Air Force Academy Chapel, its not classified and is open to all on base, especially if you wish to attend services. If attending services or just a tour, just be respectful when taking photos.

Yes, but it is ALWAYS better to ask for permission and get the "of course you can" than to assume its okay and get in trouble. Sometimes, by asking, they will show you places that the "normal" visitor might not see to photography.

Of course it is, I always do but if others are photographing, go for it. And as long as you're not interrupting any services or special events, shouldn't be an issue, especially a chapel. I've never had an issue photographing on military installations, except for flight lines and other classified areas. Just be sure you know where you're photographing when on a military installation.

I don't believe it's illegal to take photos of all government property (take the White House for example) although it is of some. I don't have any personal experience on this but that's what I understand from having read about the legalities of taking photos in public places. Assuming this Chapel is on a military base it could be illegal but I doubt this would be a certainty. OTOH, if a person started taking photos, for example, of the NORAD installation which is near the Academy in Colorado Springs, I would suspect the photographer could be in big trouble.

I was there in May and could take photos anywhere in the Chapel. I believe in 2018, there is going to be major improvements to the Chapel especially the outside. I have attached a link to my webpage with photos from the Chapel.

I agree completely but sometimes, the other side appreciates being asked so much that they will get you into places that the average person can't or won't go.
