Everything was captured with an EOS 5D III, EF 300 f/2.8L IS II and EF 2.0x III (600mm configuration). For those with EOS bodies, I've found this equipment combination on a Gimbal & tripod using Zone AF much more successful than using a single point or even an expanded single point. Captured in late December 2017 at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico. The images are sized for wide screen display at 1600-pixels. If they overshoot your display, just click the image or the URL link and they'll resize to your screen from Flickr. You can click a bit further into the image details on the Flickr page, if desired. EXIF data is available from host Flickr page as well.

Very nice. I went to Bosque in November. I was there for 6 days and it was awesome. Plenty of geese, cranes, ducks, and we saw coyotes, elk, eagles, hawks, javelina, deer, and falcons. The sunrises and sunsets on most days was fantastic. I also stopped at the VLA on the way home. Very cool.

Thanks Jeep_Daddy! I visited the VLA last year when in the area. Great light, but I didn't know the array is set-up differently at different times of the year. I dreamed of the tight cluster and arrived to find the widest array setting. Since then I've been watching the schedule and seeing when I might get back. Beyond ducks, geese and deer at Bosque, I did capture a coyote on the far side of a pond in late December 2017. And these were just a randomly selected 2-day stretch. Makes me think about a dedicated multiday visit ...

Thanks Pat! I wanted to show one of the head-on images as the birds where near to the left and near to the right and many coming straight over head. Overhead proved to be a bit harder to capture ...

Thank you jederick! My 500px and Flickr streams will have more updates over the next few days until I finish editing other portions of a recent 3-week trip to the SW.

Wow! Great set from a very cool place. The sandhill flying right at you blows me away. Super!

Another outstanding set - how do you post such large images?

Thank you Rathyatra! For the size, the UHH site displays only a 600-pixel "thumbnail" when you attach a file to a page (regardless of the actual image size). However, if you "link" an image from another site, Flickr in these examples, you can use a longer size. My images are sized 2048-pixels on the long side when exported from Lightroom for online posts. When you press the Show Tags URL, one of the options is "[img]address[*img]" that embeds the image as a link to the UHH post. Flickr generates the code for me and I just paste into the text of my post here inside the "[img]" syntax. I also use links from 500px except the 500px site doesn't allow you to vary the size of the image when linked.

Thank you firtree! The straight-one images were a challenge and not as many generated keepers for as often as I was trying to capture the birds going overhead. The exposure was different and keeping the birds in the frame proved particularly difficult. Glad you liked this one.

Thanks for the info - it is certainly nice to see those bigger images.
