Hi Tom: This is the best shot of the three. Don't be afraid to fill your camera with the subject. What were your settings, iso, etc..?

Thanks,

I don't recall exact settings. I would have to go back thru several files to find the Original Raw File. Most of them in our Local High School Gym I shoot iso 3200, f2.8 shutter 1/640 or 1/800. Often I kick iso to 6400 tighten up f stop to f3.5 or f4. Nikon D3s is darn good with low light, and at iso 8000 action photos okay. Of course when one zooms in the noise/grain begins to show.

I try to shoot in Continous Mode, with a single point focus point, as You know it is like trying to shoot flying ducks in order to keep the focus point nailed on a particular player in action, and off just a tad then subject not in sharp focus.

I am an old a man age 77 started playing with camera as a hobby when Grandson's were in High School. They have graduated, so I still go out to local High School games and try to make memories for the kid's. Fun hobby, I have made good friends, lots of memories, and always learning something new.

Thanks for taking time to look, and post Your advice, it is appreciated.

Have an Awesome 2018.

Hi Tom:
I am 72 next month and find it difficult to hold the single focus mode and my D500. I use group mode and seems to work well. Yeah those gyms can be a bear. My last game I shot I used at 50mm 1.8 and sat under the basket. Iso 5000 1/500 at 2.2 manual white balance. When I use my 70-200 2.8 at 200 mm I have a little to much motion blur.
PS the 50 mm cost me about $100.00 or so. Fixed lens are sharper you just have to let the action come to you.
Here is a sample.
Happy New Year

Thanks, Your Photo's are Awesome.

I too have the Nikon 50MM f1.8, a Tamron 24-70mm f2.8, and a couple of the old D Lens, A 35mm f2.0, and a 60mm f2.8. I have used the 50mm f1.8 for BB too. You used the Adjective "Group Mode" I would appreciate clarifying that if You know what setting that would be on the Nikon D3S or the Nikon D-610?? I use AF-C or you calling Group which is Dynamic Area AF Mode?, then the next switch position is Auto Area Mode. (With the Dynamic Area Mode as I recall I don't see a Red Hi-Lighted Focus point in view finder.

I love to learn, and try to improve, very much appreciate the feedback.

Guess I should have PM this one, ha

Thanks,

tom
