Nikon was having a special on repairing film cameras, that required you to send them back to Japan. I think it ended today, however. Start here:

I would call APS on Tuesday. I have used them and they are a authorized Nikon Repair.

The one in New York state is the one I use. I call Nikon Technical Support, the number is listed at Nikonusa.com. I always request a mailing slip. I have found Nikon customer service a good source of help.

Precision Camera, in Enfield CT, has repaired several cameras for me with outstanding service. They have a flat rate and restore the camera to original factory specs.

Nikon is where it will probably end up. Their two main locations are Melville NY (Long Island, I think) and Los Angeles CA. If you live east of the Mississippi River, your support/repair is in New York and west of the Mississippi River is in LA. There are plenty of "authorized" Nikon repair but most will end up forwarding it to one or the other, so you're better off eliminating the middle guys. You DO NOT want an "unauthorized" service center working on the camera. Especially an F4 or F5

If it's something simple, they should be able to do it, but old cameras are often taken of the repairable list. They don't stock all parts for every camera they ever made. Let us know how this turns out.

I doubt that Nikon would service those cameras any more. Nikon has the policy of supporting their cameras at least 10 years after being discontinued but the F5 was discontinued in 2004.
