Very effective IMO. I particularly like his position in the frame (a strong presence, but not overly tight) and the soft, nearly featureless background which supports the subject and theme.

Possibly lessen the white on the shirt and give a bit more light to the face? But I'm in a sunny room right now, so I know I'm not seeing it as well as could be.

With shots like this the expression is what elevates the shot above the ordinary, so you should try to bring that out as much as possible. Having the eyes shadowed by the hat isn't a shot killer, but it does weaken it slightly.

Thanks for viewing and your kind words Linda. I will see what I can do to shed some light to the face and decrease some of the "white" on his shirt.

Thanks R. G. Will try to shed some light on the facial area to bring out his eyes.
Again, thanks for viewing and your suggestions.

Once again a nice presentation. For me this is not a portrait. This is a snippet in time when a man is surveying what he is about to face or looking at the results of what has occured. His sun shielded eyes says it all. His expression is somber.

Very observant NJFrank!! This was taken just prior to the start of the reenactment battle. You saw in this image about the same as I did. Thanks for viewing and your insight.

This image works just as well as the first one. He is looking the other way, which could be interpreted as being on the "other side". Just as proud, just as serious. I like it.
