Along with Needing (?) a new tripod, i think i would like to upgrade to a new camera. After reading multiple posts on cameras, i am thinking a new D7500. Would this be considered an upgrade, or is this just a newer camera with all the same bells and whistles. I currently shoot a D5200. I think I would like to upgrade to an entry level professional model. My D5200 has done great for me up to now, but i feel i want to upgrade and improve my photography. No place better to get honest answers than here...Thanks ya'll !!

I used a D7200 for a week and was impressed with the low light performance, user memory settings and quick focusing. This was an upgrade from the D7000. However, I did purchase the D500 because the processing power was equal to the D5 (at 1/3 the cost). I shoot basketball and birds-in-flight, and the D500 was the winner. I have borrowed a D7500 and was not impressed enough to see the difference over the D7200, and the D7200 is available at great savings if you shop around. Good luck

Thanks bobbygee. So it sounds like the D500 would definitely be an upgrade while the D7500 not so much...

Well the D7500 is an upgrade to the D5200 and not simply an update like the D5600. The D7500 is certainly a nicer camera than the D5200 but I doubt that you would improve your photography with it. Do notice that the D7500 has 4MP fewer pixels than the D5200. Not that it's matter.

I agree. Going from the 7000 to the 7200 was quite an upgrade and if you shoot a lot of indoor action photos, the 500 makes even more sense. But you can currently get a refurbished 7200 from Nikon for about 2/3 the cost of a 500. Cheers and Happy New Year to you and your new camera!!

Just by reading your post you must be relatively new to DSLR camera buying. Yes, a D7500 is a considerable upgrade to a D5200.

What features of your D5200 need upgrading? Some specific answers to this question will help identify candidate models. Have you considered your lenses which tend to have more impact on image quality than moving from one cropped sensor body to another while keeping the same lenses ...

...I think what everybody is saying is that although the experts are rating the D7500 higher than the D7200...not everybody is convinced that the 7500 is much of an upgrade from the 7200 and feel that the 7200 is still a really good camera especially with the drop in price and some of the double lens packages being offered for under $1000...that said both of these cameras are an upgrade from the D5000 series...good luck with your choice...

THe D7500 has only 1 memory card slot, a deal breaker for me.

No wonder why that stuff doesn't work.

I would upgrade the tripod first and see what happens. It will probably do more to improve your images than the D7500.

I'm not against a new camera. Just upgrade one thing at a time so in the future you will know what you need most. Then go out and buy whatever makes you feel better.

I just stepped up from my 4 year old D5200 to a D7500, this Christmas. I took my time in deciding which one to get; it was between the D500 and the D7500. I have another thread here somewhere that discusses the pros and cons and my final decision.

I don't know what you mean by "entry level professional model," but I found the D7500 to be exactly what I needed. It has the metering system and the sensor of the D500 and the AF of the D7200. It's solid, a joy to use with the touchscreen and I can use all my DX lenses. I don't need the dual slots; I just slapped in a 128GB SD card and I have all the storage space I need. I transfer my pictures to my laptop and the cloud on the same say I take them. The D7500 is faster than the D7200 in both processor and picture taking and I am very pleased with it. I have no need for a grip, the camera is big enough as it is right now. I have ordered a second battery and that will be plenty for me.

Some people like to look down on the D7500 for whatever reason, but I think it's a great camera and I made the right choice.

I prefer Cheer. It has the Blue Magic Whitener.
