I am debating on which camera to buy for a trip to Iceland. I want it to be waterproof and freezeproof. I want it to be small to fit in my pocket and under $200.00. I will want it to take pictures of the Northern Lights and I am sure many other things. I have looked at Fuji, Nikon and Canon but don't know which ones would be the better choice. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on this? I do own a good camera but don't want to take it on this trip. Plus I am 63 and want something simple to use. Not spend a lot of time learning to use a complex camera.
Thanks for any help!
Arlene

This is a great question Arlene. I have had a camera fog up inside my first day in Mexico. Have take shots in snow weather
but not super frigid weather. Have owned most brands mostly Nikon and Sony. We have weather sealed and some resistant
cameras now. Found this information:

I actually just bought my wife a Fujifilm XP120 for Christmas. She hasn’t been able to use it yet with house guests finally leaving yesterday. Dust proof, freeze proof (14 deg F), and waterproof to 65’. 16mp also, and AUTO mode switches between modes automatically, Macro, etc...

So many other features she’ll probably never explore. Her last non-waterproof camera met it’s demise when she went for a swim in a pool in Mexico and forgot she had it attached to her.

Fuji far and away makes the easiest most intuitive cameras to use. With WR glass you will have a good time w/o camera stress. Olympus, Sony, and Panasonic make good light cameras as well, but the menu systems are astonishingly difficult to master.

If you are just at the level of using Auto or P for everything, most any will do fine.

Another question. If I get the Fuji XP120 what would be the best settings for taking pics of the Nothern Lights?

You will need a tripod, cannot shot Northern Lights hand held and not get blurs. Set your ISO between 800 and 3200, your aperture between f/2.8 and f/5.6, and your shutter speed at between 15 seconds and 30 seconds. Can the XP120 do this? Don't know. But, it has a timelapse setting, and that would be cool.

You can find a used Olympus TG-3 for that price, and for a bit more, I’d suggest the Tg-4, or even more the TG-5. You will need a tripod or a stable surface to capture the Aurora.

More money, but also on the waterproof/freeze proof list is the Olympus TG-5. My DW gave me one for Christmas. Love that woman! I think she got the idea when we were in Iceland last year and she saw me trying to protect my "better" camera.

The gift was a complete surprise. The reviews of the TG-5 are very good! The Olympus menu is a bit strange to me so far. The images and 4K video clips in the last two days are above my expectations.

With the $200 limit and waterproof, I suggest, as some of the others have, you purchase a used Olympus TG camera or " bite the bullet" and pay the little extra for the newer TG-5. You will not regret it.

As a Fuji guy, I was leaning toward the Fuji, but after reading several ratings, I would go with the Olympus TG5. It gets a lot of raves as the top rated outdoor all-weather and waterproof camera. Here’s a comparison that may help: https://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=olympus_tg5&products=fujifilm_xp120.

But as others have said, you will still need a tripod.
