Suggestions on the best, fastest HD to use with Lightroom on a new iMac Pro... A raid HD? Any suggestion would be appreciated! Merry Christmas to all!
I have a Wolverine that also has a screen that you can review all of your pictures. The batteries last a long time and it has a lot of storage.

Depends on how much space you need. Samsung makes a very fast (and small and rugged) SSD with a USB 3 connection in 500 GB and 1TB sizes for a reasonable price. Now if you need something bigger, SSD is going to be a little pricey, but it’s 4-5x the speed of the fastest HD and will fit into your shirt pocket...

I use an external RAID from OWC, their Thunder Bay 4 with 12 TB and RAID 5. Works fine and is fast enough for my needs. I have it hooked up to a late 2013 iMac that I will be upgrading in a few months.

I have to 4TB external HD connected to you PC. I use one for my images and the other to backup that one. I have several older 1TB drives in my gun safe that have backups of my pictures except for the pictures taken for the past year.
I have a Toshiba 2T external hard drive. It went haywire on me and I am no longer able to access the hundred of photos and other documents. I had a friend who has a program to extract data from a crashed hard drive, but his computer failed to see my hard drive. Any suggestions as to how I might be able to save all my data?

Is the drive spinning? (Place your hand flat on the drive, and you can feel it). If so, is it making any noises on start-up, like clicking or “clanks”?
It does spin and there is no odd noise at start up. The LED that is blue when the drive is operating correctly is now white

Do you have another USB cable you can try? I would suggest trying a different USB port, but you mentioned that a friend had tried it, so I’m assuming we’ve eliminated the port as a potential issue. On your computer, does the drive show up as a drive letter? If so, and you’re running Windows, I’d try running the scandisk utility. If that fails, you might download Seagate’s diagnostic drive tools (will try to find a link and post it). If it does not show up as a drive letter and you’ve swapped the cable and USB ports, your only real option (if you feel you have the skills) is removing the bare drive from the enclosure and attaching it directly to a SATA port and power from a desktop and try to see the drive (this would eliminate the USB to SATA conversion as a potential problem). If all of that fails and you have no backup (why not?), then a drive recovery company (which is not cheap) is your final option. Once you resolve this issue, one way or the other, I’d suggest using good quality enterprise class drives in the future and backup your data, preferably twice, one of which should be off-site.
TriX, Many thanks. I did try all the options you listed except for connecting to a desk top SATA port. If that fails I was given a company in my area that may be able to retrieve the data.
G Technology had some excellent external drives! I don't have any personal experience with their Raid drives but I have 4 G Tech drives and they have been reliable and use HGST drives that are enterprise grade and have top ratings.
