Would like feedback on teleconverters, trying to decide if I want to purchase one or purchase new telephoto lens, I use a Tamaron AF 70-300 1:4-5.6 now, any help would be welcome

If you use one get the best you can get. I have a Canon for my L lenses.

You decide; a converter is 200 to 400 bucks and a new 600-1000 mm lens is 1200 to 12000.

If you have the cash get a new lens and a converter and you will toss that Tamaron or give it as a gift!

You never mentioned your camera and would you want, either a 1.4X or a 2.0X. Keep in mind that Camera Brand teleconverters are not cheap. Such as Canon and Nikon. Prices are $400+ each on Canon and Nikon Brands. Tamron, I believe makes a teleconverter. And you have third party options, such as the Kenko Brand, that is less expensive. And is considered good quality on some lenses. Good luck.

I have used teleconverters with both Nikon and Fuji cameras and lens and found them useful. Obviously they do cause a loss of light and the image is not quite as good in my opinion but when I need the distance, I can get it, especially in outdoor bright light. But, you also need to be sure if any TC you buy will work with the lens you mentioned. Most TCs will not work with lower light lens such as the one you mention. So, even if you want one, be sure that lens and your camera can handle it.

Tamaron makes their own TCs, you might give them a call.

Suggest you be thorough in your research about compatibility. It can be a problem with some. & consider loss of light. Personally I prefer a 1.4, only one stop loss & good image quality. Happy hunting.

Your 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens is not a good match for use with a TC. It cannot AF with a 2X TC. It can only AF with cameras that can deal with f/8 maximum aperture using a 1.4X TC.

Generally a TC works well only with high end lenses, and for zooms that means pretty expensive ones.

Use mine on my 300 2.8 and my 500, works great.

Agreed. I purchased a 2X converter from Tamron that was matched to my SP 70-200 G Di, which is intended to work with the lens.

I haven't had good luck with Tamron or Sigma teleconverters. I currently have a Tamron 2x and Tamron 70-200/2.8 lens. I thought I could cover more capabilities with the pair. The lens is great, but the teleconverter is not. I cannot get a sharp image with the teleconverter. A friend has the Canon pair and they give great, sharp shots. So I have added the Sigma 150-600 lens and quit using the teleconverter.
