Problem importing Lightroom presets

I have been trying to import presets into Lightroom 4 using Windows 8, without success. I downloaded the zip file and unzipped it. Then I tried two methods to import the presets.

The first was to open Lightroom, open the Develop module, go to Presets in the menu on the left side of the screen, go to User Presets, right click and click on Import. Then select the preset template file(s), and click on Open. Then close Lightroom, open it again and look for the preset that was supposed to have been imported. But it's not there. I tried restarting the computer too, same result.

The second method was to open Windows Explorer, go to the directory where the unzipped presets are stored, copy them, and paste them into the directory where Lightroom is storing its presets (find this by opening Lightroom, open Develop module, go to Preferences under Edit, click on the Presets tab, then click on Show Lightroom Presets Folder). Paste the preset template into that folder. That didn't work either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Happy Christmas!

Thanks for the response Dan. I tried that, but it still didn't work. I suspect there is something simple I am doing wrong, but have no idea what it is.

If I were you I would update to at least LR6, even better CC Classic - they have a huge number of USEFUL features your version does not have

Thanks for the link Steve. I tried it, but alas I am no further forward. I think I will have to get a guru to come in and do it for me.

Thanks John; I'm seriously thinking of that. I'll see if Santa is still making his rounds.

You need the real Santa. Many of his elves are digitally challenged.

You are saying you select Preset template files..... template files don't go in the Develop Module presets. Is that what you mean?

the proper way to install presets is as you described above go to the preferences preset tab to find the folder where they are stored it is usually the lightroom folder (C:\Users\Lloyd\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom is where they are on my system.. Then there are typically 2 types of presets that you install ones that go into develop presets where the .lrtemplate are installed and usually grouped into folders. If you have your own presets you would install them into the develop presets and into a folder called user presets (if you don't have this folder you can create a new folder with the name user presets and copy your single development presets into it.

The other type of preset is the local adjustment presets which are used as local brush, radial and graduated filter settings.. These get copied into the local adjustment presets as single .lrtemplate files. You are working with an old version of lightroom and many of the features contained in those presets may not work for example the radial filter local adjustment didn't come out until lr 5..... You can also copy inport and export presets into the corresponding folder. I hope this helps. You then have to restart lightroom for them to take effect

Make a new folder on desk top. Open zip file. Left click button on the preset hold button down and drag it to the new folder. Do that to all presets. Open your program import presets from folder on desktop

Thanks for your time lloydl2. I'll give it another try and see if I can wrestle it to the ground.
