The Eagle Nest - Shift change ... again

I"ve got the schedule down pretty well; today was a little early and I only had to wait a few minutes. The birds don't talk much, one comes in, the other leaves - total about 20 seconds. Those specks in the photo are flies and bugs ... there is a least one dead fish in the nest.

Although I can't be sure, I think there are still eggs in the nest. As for the equipment: a Nikon 500mm f4 prime mounted to a Nikon D7200 body.

It's an awesome experience being able to watch an active eagles nest! You are so very lucky to have the opportunity you have. We have one close by that I was able to watch from when they were first sitting on the eggs to the eaglets fledging the nest. Hopefully they come back again next year. Here is one of my favorite photos I was able to take.

My goal is to get shots of the young eagles first flight; I will need a tremendous amount of luck ... I will keep trying. I do have the early flights of a young osprey.

Great shots, keep watching, keep posting. We have Eagles everywhere, and usually see them daily. However, we have spotted some new inhabitants in an old nest for about 2 months now about 1/2 mile from our house. Amazing the old nest survived Hurricane Irma with the blow we had. Trying to get access to private land or will have to try for about 200+ yard shots. Usually the Chicks will hatch about late January, give a take a few weeks, and I'll be spending some time there I can hopefully get a few shots.

Although it's absolutely nothing like watching a live nest, there is a website called explore.org that has webcams aimed at several eagles nests, as well as osprey, owls, bears, lions, elephants, whales, and many more animals. I watched an Osprey nest develop from April to August. An interesting way to see nature both beautiful as well as brutal. (Some of the chicks were attacked and taken by a Great Horned Owl.)
