I use a LowePro sling strap. They work great and give you fast access to the other accessories you might need.

Backpacks and camera bags are as personal to me as my wife’s purse is to her. If you cannot check them out in a store, I suggest you look at what resellers like Adorama, B&H, etc., have to offer in your size and style. Of brands currently available I have Billingham, Manfrotto and Tamrac, all excellent quality. Lowepro, Tenba and Vanguard are also known to be very durable. Probably most others are as well. My Tamrac backpack looks like it’s been carried all over the desert and mountains for 40 years, but that’s because it has been. It’s far from being worn out, though. Happy holidays, and good luck in your search!

Jimmy, I own and use the Canon 200. It's my most used back. I prefer it to my Lowpro.
I'm pretty sure the camera will fit with the zoom attached. I'd have to actually try it. I might have a lens and camera to try it with. I'll check.
Otherwise the 200 is a great pack for everyday use because of its comfort and weight and versatility and fairly small size.

His lens is 7.6 " long and add to that the thickness of his camera and I don't think it is going to fit well crosswise in a "Sling back" pack. If he ever wants to keep an extender between lens and body it will definately a NO GO !!

Merry Christmas to you. My preference is for Think Tank Bags. Quality construction, designed by photographers and you can email them for suggestions. I have two of their bags.

I have that same lowpro B.B. can’t put my 200-500 but have it packed now. Leaving in a few hours to go to Bradenton Beach for four days. I have a D500, 18-400, 35mm, Sony a6000 with both kit lenses. Batteries and other items. I have my Nikon 200-500 lens in an Ape case.

Carrying method? In the field, on vacation, in the car? Weather resistant? Padded? Seems to me it kinda depends on your intended purpose.

I am a hobbyist. I generally use a "kit" (backpack) that provides maximum flexibility for my needs. My primary need is to hold/transport the gear safely in my vehicle. I generally pick whatever combination of supplies out of the backpack, just before I shoot. Because of weight, I rarely carry the entire backpack into the field.

Although my gear is all Nikon, I use a medium sized backpack made by Canon. It has adjustable, padded shoulder straps, a waist/belly strap with quick release buckles, heavy double zippers, is water resistant, several large and small zippered compartments, adjustable (velcro) internal dividers, carry loop, etc. It holds my D200, 3 lenses (18-70mm, 105mm, 18-200mm), extension tube set, cable release, speed light SB-800, extra batteries, charger and extra flash cards, USB (camera to computer) cable, rain gear + large trash bags to cover equipment if it rains. I currently do not carry my 70-200 in the pack, but it could be configured to do so.

I purchased the backpack at "Best Buy" about 10 years ago. It was not expensive, but serves my purpose well.

Please excuse the quality of the attached iPhone pics. Hope you might find some of the above considerations useful.

Been using this same bag for 3 years- too bad it's discontinued-can carry and arrange lots of equipment with fast, easy accessibility.

I have used the Amazon Basics backpack you mention for about three years and am highly satisfied with it, although I'm not a pro and it doesn't get used on a daily basis. For it's size it can hold a large amount of gear and has 4 compartments in addition to the main one which is fully configurable. The fabric is good, being quite durable (I've never had even a tiny tear) although it's not quite as heavy as the huge Lowepro backpack I also have and never use. The one downside I've experienced about the Amazon pack is that the grab handle, or whatever it's best called, the small loop at the top of the pack for carrying it with one hand, separated on one end from the body of the bag after I'd used it heavily loaded for a year or two. Fortunately my wife is an excellent seamstress and sowed the loop back on and reinforced both attachments and I've had no recurrence of the problem despite really heavy loads - a FF dslr, big 70-200 or 300mm prime lens, smaller but still heavy 28-75 and 20-35 lenses, and a small prime or two , extra batteries and a charger, lens hoods etc. The backpack is also quite comfortable on my back and well padded. It's very economically priced and a real bargain I think. It's fully returnable to Amazon and I would suggest you try it unless your usage is very heavy, pro-style.

I agree....Think Tank makes great stuff.....but tends to be on the pricey side IMHO.

(Perhaps, after spending many thousands of $$$ on camera equipment...the price of the bag shouldn't be a deterrent? <big grin>)
