Trouble opening video dvd

A friend recently sent me a video dvd. It contains .IFO files which Windows Media Player can not open. Apparently Microsoft no longer supports this format. Does anyone know of another video player which will run on Windows 10 professional that I could try? Thanks for any info.

I wonder if it is an information file that goes with a video.

I would try to find VLC for Windows. Should be free.

From Google:
An IFO file is a DVD-Video disc information file used by DVD players. ... An IFO file consists of headers that tell the DVD player what screen to show at startup, where each chapter starts, where audio tracks are located on the disc, etc. IFO files are often located with VOB and .BUP files on a DVD.
