I am considering purchasing Lightroom Classic and wondered if I can download pictures I have in Apple Photo to Lightroom? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I know how to use Google.

EXPORT ORIGINALS from Photos. Import to a Lightroom catalog.

I move the photos I want to put in LR to my desktop. You can't get them directly from Photos to LR unless someone has found a way.

I was looking for a way to move a large amount of pictures. Unfortunately I used Apple Photos when I started shooting pictures several years ago. I have been using Luminar but now want to move to Adobe. I guess I'll just start with new pictures and not worry about the other 3000. Ouch! Thanks

I have kept Aperture in tact on my dest top and refer to it occasionally, but never edit there now that I have learned to use photoshop and can store them in Lightroom. IF IF I wish to use images from Aperture I load them into files in my LR catalog ( on an external HD) and re edit them in LR PS -- I seem to have small files for several years back in the LR catalog, but not all images---

You are never downloading photos to Lightroom. Lightroom is Cataloging software. You add your Photos to LR catalog by telling LR were they are.

...and you can move the actual files where you want them from where Photos keeps them to where you want them to be. I have some 60,000 photos in my Catalog that all reside on a External Portable drive. It is not as big a deal to do as might think. I can also recommend the video training that Laura Shoe offers for Lightroom and Photoshop. Some of the best money I have spent on photography...

Best,
Todd Ferguson

Not sure why you would say this. Leave your Photos where the are until you understand how LR Classic works. When you do, you can put your pics wherever you want and have them all in the LR catalog.

Actually the question about moving photos from point A to point B is a different question than asking how to use the photos with Lightroom. Most likely, if you have made edits in Apple Photos, you would need to export those photos so that the edits are intact. I am not that familiar with Apple Photos as I only use it for mundane photos I take for a business reason, so I leave the photos with Apple Photo and don't do anything to them. I do not know where the program stores the original photos, which you would need to know if you were going to use the originals and not exports.

Linking a photo or photo file to LR is easy once you learn the software. Then you can use that file or folder from within LR. Where you store your files on the hard drive is your call, nothing goes "into" LR, the program only links your file or folder to the application so that all of the linked folders/files show up in the application; from that point on, you would need to make all changes to any file or folder from within the program. So, once you find your photos or export them to folders you can then link them to LR and that will happen fairly quickly. I've linked up 4,000 or 5,000 images at one time so 3000 is not a problem to link.
