Consumer report

Consumer Report Rated the Panasonic Lumix FZ150 as the best consumer buy in the category of Point and Shot cameras for those who want a built in lens, but advanced features similar to those on an SLR. The other Superzooms were in a different catagory which I have forgotten. The FZ150 was rated half red in every feature except one which was average for Flash point. Not certain what this means. This camera has been discontinued,
but those left are presently being sold off.

I personally believe the best Superzoom is the one is happy with. The FZ150 has a hot shoe, Raw, but only a 24X zoom so I may change my mind
and get an DSLR with a 25mm-300mmlense if it is not to heavy. I know that Nikon has such a lens which is presently out of stock at BH. If it is out of stock it must be a good lens. But then I would then need a good body similar to my wife's, but with IS?

I would like to hear from anyone who has the Panasonic FZ150 and thier viewpoint. Someone wrote in a review that it felt and looked like cheap plastic.

Whatever I get is going to be used for birding and landscapes as most of you have read 1500 times.

It seems JD Powers had similar results http://www.jdpower.com/content/press-release/RoPDeNH/2012-digital-single-lens-reflex-camera-online-buyer-report.htm

Consumer Report Rated the Panasonic Lumix FZ150 as... (show quote)

Lots of people knock CU, but I like them. I wouldn't live my life by their recommendations, but they certainly have the equipment and the expertise to do comparisons. Very often there is no practical difference between items rated 1, 2, and 3. But I would avoid something rated 20. You can't always go by price or brand. Unbiased evaluations cut to the heart of the matter.

I used to believe in CU until I found out that for a payment to them you could get a good review. The number of products from Sears that get high ratings causes me to think it's probably true. Mike

I have the Nikon 28-300 for FX but can use on DX, you will find it is somewhat heavy to use as a walk around. I do use this lens as a walk around lens and love it, but look up the specs on weight. Nikon recently brought out a DX lens 18-300 that is a few dollars less but would give you more width on the low end. You could use this on an FX but who would want to due to crop factor!!! Good luck on your choice whether P/S or DSLR.

I have the 150 and it is the best camera I ever had. Check it out if you can find one. They must be coming out with a better one. Maybe similar to the sz 20 which I have and is a outstanding camera.

Looking at that camera, it's not what I'd call a P&S, but I guess it is.

Jerry,
Which one does not look like a point and shoot?

Panasonic Lumix FZ150. It looks more like a bridge. I'm used to little, flat P&S.

No it is a bridge. It has been discontinued, but Panasonic has some left.
Even Canon is coming out with a new Bridge. I have seen on the site where many advanced photographers are leaving their SLR's and purchasing bridges.
