can I use some photos as subjects of painting? I love to photograph plants, flowers and also to paint them.
Why not? As long as the photos are ones you took, you're not violating anyone's copyright.

And if you find photos here that you like, simply send a message to the photographer asking to use their image as the basis of a painting. Most of us would be flattered and would not have a problem with that, I am sure. We have a few members who share fantastic images of flower.
My wife is an amateur painter, and will sometimes ask for a poster size print of one of my photos for that purpose. The image quality does not matter, and she has created some very nice works of art that would have been useless as a photo. The choice of glossy or mat paper does not seem to matter. We use spray adhesive to mount the photo on foam board, the she uses acrylic (sic) paint. She likes to use a color print as a starter, but has used black and white. When finished and mounted behind glass it is impossible to tell it started as a photo. I tried the technique once, but prefer a PC for my artsy-craftsy work.

One of the more interesting questions I have seen on this site.
Many artists take a photograph of a scene and use it for reference when painting. Some set up a still life scene and then paint it. The great artists like the great photographers all had an eye for and understanding of light.

Artists using photographs they have taken as the basis for paintings is a long honored tradition. Frequently, the artist would take multiple pictures to combine in a final work. When I was a little boy, a local painter would, with permission, get local children (including my siblings and me) to pose in different locations for photos that would eventually be incorporated in paintings.

*(...and if you want to "paint" directly from your computer, check out Corel Painter Essentials.)
Thanks for your kind replies. I will ask the pho tographers if I want to use their photos for paintings. If and when I do that I will share it on forum. I agree we can turn photos into beautiful paintings.
Years ago when I was in college I tried thinking outside the box (camera). An assignment was to create an image (photograph) ie. could be printed multiples.
Using a sheet of plastic, painted on it and then printed the result in black and white.
Back in the seventies, I no longer have the “negative” or the print unfortunately. It was fun, different and was submitted by my instructor in a display at a local newspaper.
My career as a painter ended and as a photographer continued. (No way associated to that exposure)

In the early 70's I recall an art project where a few of us hand painted individual frames (or stretches) of film. The film to be viewed while listening to Iron Butterfly's In a gadda da vida.
