Early Christmas!! Nikon d7200

My husband made me open my Christmas gift yesterday. Nikon D7200 And Tamron 18-400. Got it just in time to charge up the battery and head out to my daughter’s archery tournament. Big learning curve from the d3400 I’ve had for the past couple of years. Now I have to find it (daughter hid it because I said I have to sell it to pay for the new one) and hide it from her as it’s her Christmas gift.
With all that background that has nothing to do with my question: I’m looking for a guide to pair with the manual which I’ve just finished reading. I had the Magic Lantern for the 3400 and it was great for me. Are there better ones for the 7200? What recommendations do you guys have?

I've always just downloaded the user's manual from Nikon's website so I can read it on the computer screen instead of the little booklet. Thom Hogan has excellent guide books though.

Congrats on your Nikon D7200 and Tamron 18-400mm. That combination will serve you well. I have that lens on my list of two. I need to sell my DX 70-300mm to helps towards the new lens. Enjoy.

I bought a refurbished D7200 last year that did not include a manual. While searching I ran across Steve Perry's Back Country Gallery website and started reading and watching his Youtube videos and stopped looking for a printed user manual. He's a very good presenter and I learned a lot about camera settings and fine tuning. He also has a complete manual you can download for a very reasonable price and you get a number of downloads which comes in handy if you work with more than one computer. I loaded on my iPad, MacBook Pro and iMac and refer to it often.

Is there a learning curve going from the D3400 to the D7200? I think if anything the D7200 is easier to use than the D3400.

Like anything different there is a learning period. Some adjustments are only available by going into various menus on a 3400 that are possible by pushing a button on the 7200. Steve Perry's videos coving this really well.

Go through the settings in the menu one by one as listed in the User's Manual and you will be more than half way through the learning curve. There are new features, but the basics are the same as your current camera.

I bought a refurbished D7200 early this year. I downloaded the Nikon owner's manual and I realized that I could use more "down-to-earth" guidance. I ordered (from Amazon) "Nikon D7200 for Dummies", by Julie Adair King. It's easy to read and understand, and it has been a great resource. It's been a great camera and you'll have a good time with it.

I like "Mastering the D7200" by Darrel Young. I have had several of his books and they are my favorites.

Congratulations! When I received my d7100 upgrade from a D40 a couple of years ago, I used a how to video collection from Creative live. Took me through all of the steps of setting up the camera and the various settings. Also taught a lot about photography in general. I think it was a total of 6 or 8 hours but well worth the investment. I like to learn by example rather than reading and it was helpful to me. Good luck with the camera. They also have a course on the 3400 for your daughter. I think there was some kind of a deal when I bought my course and you may be able to get a discount if both are bought at the same time.
