My Nikon P7100 allows me to make 2 customs settings from 4 choices, then I have 3 settings that I can customize almost anything. I've figured out how to set them up, but wonder how one remembers what they did, especially when rushed to take a pic. I was thinking of putting a sticky note in the case to refer to, I think with time I might remember. Any suggestions?

I wondered the same thing myself. That's why I never used them. Also, I couldn't decide what to assign to them. I thought they would be good for some setting I had to use often, but making the adjust ment required several steps. Having a custom button would be ideal. If I were using the setting often, then I would remember (I think).

I made up plastic-coated cards for my cameras. I can print new ones with items listed alphabetically or by function. I can also color-code them.

I made some for video. I set one up for a 50th, 60th and 125th for video but I found out that since the aperture and ISO will change so much that using the custom settings really didn't work. For instance: I set up C1 for 1/50th f8 ISO400. But when I use C1 my light dictates that I increase ISO, fstop, or both. After I'm done shooting that segment and the camera goes to sleep, when it wakes up it seems to revert back to the C1 settings and I have to change them back to the desired fstop and ISO. What a pain. So I figure it's best to just know what you'r going to be shooing and know how to create and save a custom setting on the fly so that you can switch fast.

Do you have a "Smart Phone" or other similar device. If you have texting, text the settings to yourself and save in Favorites. I have mine in Pages on my iPad.

I do have a smart phone, I can't believe I didn't think of this as I put much in my note pad and save. Thanks for being so smart.

Hi Jerry, I took a peak at the site and was impressed. I think I will spend some time and probably order something. I've spend hrs/hrs on the custom settings and I think I'm thinking they might not be the help I thought they would be.

I just love the name Jerry...
Bye,
Geri

Interesting. Nikon is coming out with a D600. Why can't these companies be more imaginative with their names?

Jerry you are sooo smart! That is a great idea! I have a card laminator and I'm going to do exactly as you describe! Thanks!
