Keep hearing rumors (including yesterday at an authorized dealer) about an anticipated mirrorless full-frame coming out by Sony. Would love to get back to FF (former 5D owner) and was even toying with changing systems from Canon (would buy a 5D III) to Nikon (their new D800). Any thoughts on mirrorless; concerns about Sony/Minolta; cautions about switching complete systems???
The Nikon D800 uses a Sony sensor, so Sony will come out with a full frame mirror less with that sensor, but the first mirror less will be using their 24 mp sensor.
I use their NEX 7. APSC, but I love using it. Their EVF is excellent, I love seeing WISYWIG through it.
It's not supposed to come out for a few months yet, but it should be an excellent camera. Their alpha lenses are excellent, unlike the NEX lenses, which has 1 excellent and 1 good lens. You have to use converters to get other exc lenses, like Leica, Zeiss, other Sony, etc.
I don't know that any camera is going to be much if any better than the D800 though, except mirror less might be smaller and lighter.

I'm thinking that what Sony will come out with in full frame will not be "mirrorless" as in NEX but SLT(translucent mirror)as in A-77, etc.
sonyalpharumors is the best place to check.

B&H has the Full Frame Sony Mirrorless Kit for under $2000 on pre-order
Since it is a Sony, and Sony makes some of the sensors for Nikon, I would expect Nikon to catch up, but then they might destroy the DSLR sales
It sounds like a ground-breaking small FF camera. But, at this time and for the next year or more, the system is extremely limited. The Zeiss lenses are great if not expensive. And, the first ones do not include any macro or portrait lenses...a rather odd decision by Sony. So, if you need a system, you might want to stick with Canon or Nikon. But, the Sony FF has loads of potential. We just need to wait a couple years.

I know what you are saying. I jumped out and bought the Nikon 1 V1 when it came out. I just wonder if the full frame Sony mirrorless is going to be a little camera with a monster lens that makes the whole thing of portability useless. Don't forget 36MP full rame is unforgiving.

The new mirror less camera was announced today. Looks interesting.
The problem with this new camera series is that it has a new mount. Sony is not consistent with compatibility like Canon or Nikon. They do have an adaptor but it makes the camera look weird.
Also, there is only one lens available until next year and the lenses are costly.
Something I see over and over here is people forget about Minolta glass that fits any Sony Alpha camera. Some of the Minolta glass is excellent and is very inexpensive. Again, here is a list of my glass.
UPDATE: The A7 uses E mount glass, the Minolta lenses will not fit directly.
Sony is coming out with an SLT FF Alpha mount next year.
All Minolta
75-300 - Very good lens, not my sharpest, but very good for a 100.00 lens.
70-210 f/4.0 Beercan lens - better than my Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L lens.
35-105 f/3.5-4.5 with Macro, very nice lens, good for portraits
100mm f/2.8 Macro - this lens is so sharp you don't dare use it for portraits.
135mm /2.8 again very sharp and great color - love this for portraits
50mm f/1.2 extremely sharp
50mm f/1.4 extremely sharp

Minolta was an innovator in its day and had some excellent lenses as well as crappy ones. I had a Minolta system which I sold to get into digital about 16 or more years ago.
I would not buy into it today.
