An Associated Press report says that a once-invisible offshore company has helped bolster Romney’s wealth even though it did not appear on his state or federal financial reports for 15 years.
President Obama’s reelection campaign seized on the report as raising further questions about their rival’s business background, prompting Romney’s campaign to seek to turn the focus back to Obama’s handling of the economy.
The offshore company, Sankaty High Yield Asset Investors, is based in Bermuda. It recently posted $1.9 million in earnings, but the company did not appear on Romney’s disclosure forms until he released his 2010 tax returns during the primary campaign.
“The mystery surrounding Sankaty reinforces Romney's history of keeping a tight rein on his public dealings, already documented by his use of private e-mail and computer purges as Massachusetts governor and his refusal to disclose his top fundraisers,” AP wrote. “The Bermuda company had almost no assets, according to Romney's 2010 tax returns. But such partnership stakes could still provide significant income for years to come, said tax experts, who added that the lack of disclosure makes it impossible to know for certain.”
The omissions on Romney’s forms were allowed by those overseeing his ethics filings, according to AP, and the report noted that the campaign has said in the past that some disclosures were not required because they were below the $1,000 minimum threshold set by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics. Some earnings may appear on tax forms but not on financial disclosure reports.
Ben LaBolt, the Obama campaign’s national press secretary, said in an e-mail that the report “raises serious questions about whether Mitt Romney established a Bermuda corporation to avoid U.S. taxes and attempted to hide it from the public.” He called on Romney to release additional income-tax returns to see “whether he created this shell corporation to intentionally avoid paying U.S. taxes.”

This election is going to get ugly. Both sides are throwing pig poop just to see what will stick, sadly the public is the only ones that will get hurt. Come November one of these "fools" will be in office, their promises forgotten and the middle class left to pay the price.

Obama has trouble hiding things as he keeps getting caught by open mic opportunities.

I do believe you're right MWAC. I'm just hoping that we can get enough real conservatives in House and Senate to keep whoever in check.

I think because the choices are slimmer and the stakes are higher.

I disagree completely there is a very real choice as there are very real differences between the candidates.

If you are having trouble deciding then it is your personal issue and not the candidates' positions.

In cases like these, the best thing to do is vote your pocketbook and forsake all other issues. Regardless of your feelings...cash is king and more money is better than less.

That is one issue that you can consider that will personally have an effect on your life experience.

If you make net (after the taxes you currently pay) less than $250,000 then you will benefit financially from the tax reforms proposed on the Democratic platform.

If your net income after taxes is greater than $250,000 then you will benefit by electing the Republican platform.

Times are tough so take care of yourself first!

It is that simple...anything else you bring into consideration will not directly change the amount of money you have at the end of the year and therefore should not be considered a factor regardless of how you "feel" about it...you can't use your feelings to feed the family!

I already know I'm never going with a progressive liberal who can't help themselves from infringing on my rights and freedoms to push their agenda toward what they think is best for me.

Let us meet right here on July 6, 2016 and see if this is true.

I say it does not matter who wins. Our taxes will be higher and our healthcare and standard of living will be worse.

This might be true if we enter into another war. If we can keep our military actions to a non-invasion status we may be okay. If for some unknown reason an extensive military action is taken then we will be further up the creek.

What "Get ugly?" It already is. And it will get worse. Much, much worse.

I'm not a fan of Obama, but there's no way I can vote for Romney, and if I had 2008 to do over again, I'd still vote for Obama, who I find to be ineffectual. Watching the DC Circus has me wondering if there's some way we could just start over. I'm tired of choosing between Tweedle-Dum and Tweedle-Dummer, and I'm totally disgusted with a Congress which is totally dedicated to obstruction. Reaching across the aisle could get your hand chopped off, and most of the time, it seems to be for the purpose of dropping a bomb. We've reached the point where we equate corporations with people, which is just insane. (When's the last time a corporation went to jail for breaking the law? Joined the Army? Voted in an election, by which I mean, entered the voting booth and pulled a lever?)

I think that if the founding fathers could see what's become of the place, they'd have sued for peace with King George.

Obama wants to take our military down to less than half and cut our nukes to please Russia for whatever kind of deal he has going on there. Don't worry that we will start a war as we won't have any defence when one is declared on us. Maybe by China as they need more resources to feed their need and we have plenty here (clean water, air and oil) just for the taking as we just sit on them as we're mandated to by your glorious leader.

We really only need one nuclear weapon. Once it gets that far it doesn't matter how many we have or they it all over. In fact there's a great song:

Okay now every body sing:

When you attend a funeral,
It is sad to think that sooner or
Later those you love will do the same for you.
And you may have thought it tragic,
Not to mention other adjec-
Tives, to think of all the weeping they will do.
But don't you worry.
No more ashes, no more sackcloth.
And an armband made of black cloth
Will some day never more adorn a sleeve.
For if the bomb that drops on you
Gets your friends and neighbors too,
There'll be nobody left behind to grieve.

And we will all go together when we go.
What a comforting fact that is to know.
Universal bereavement,
An inspiring achievement,
Yes, we all will go together when we go.

We will all go together when we go.
All suffuse with an incandescent glow.
No one will have the endurance
To collect on his insurance,
Lloyd's of london will be loaded when they go.

Oh we will all fry together when we fry.
We'll be french fried potatoes by and by.
There will be no more misery
When the world is our rotisserie,
Yes, we will all fry together when we fry.

Down by the old maelstrom,
There'll be a storm before the calm.

And we will all bake together when we bake.
There'll be nobody present at the wake.
With complete participation
In that grand incineration,
Nearly seven billion hunks of well-done steak.

Oh we will all char together when we char.
And let there be no moaning of the bar.
Just sing out a te deum
When you see that i.c.b.m.,
And the party will be "come as you are."

Oh we will all burn together when we burn.
There'll be no need to stand and wait your turn.
When it's time for the fallout
And saint peter calls us all out,
We'll just drop our agendas and adjourn.

You will all go directly to your respective valhallas.
Go directly, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dolla's.

And we will all go together when we go.
Ev'ry hottenhot and ev'ry eskimo.
When the air becomes uranious,
And we will all go simultaneous.
Yes we all will go together
When we all go together,
Yes we all will go together when we go.
