Help with D750 and Capture NX2

Hi, I just upgraded from a D7100 to a D750.
Being a huge fan of Capture NX2 and knowing that it stopped being updated several years ago I didn't realize the D750 NEF files could not be read by Capture NX2. (honestly I thought the D750 was "old" enough that it would be ok, my bad) So is there any sort of patch for this?
I saw there is something called D750NEF NX2 plug in but it refuses to open on my mac.
Any help would be appreciated.

I experienced the same thing with my D500. My fix is to open the raw files in Capture NX-D (free download from Nikon), adjust white balance and exposure there, then save as a jpeg and open in NX2 and do all my other normal editing there. When finished editing I save the file in NEF format so that way it saves the edits.
