Tether problem

When tethering (Nikon D700 to Lightroom 5.7.1 on a laptop running Windows 7), it will lose the connection on occasion. I can restore it by turning the camera off, and back on again. Do any of you have a similar problem, and have you found a fix for it?

Lightroom is notorious for this. It is not you. I shoot tethered a lot and I switched to Capture One - it is 3x faster than LR and has never dropped a connection. Not that I think you should go buy it just for that, but there ARE alternatives. I think there are some cheap or even free options out there.

Can I set up print packages with Capture One? With LR, I have 11 print packages, and would need to be able to duplicate those if I were to switch to Capture One. I already have Capture One Pro 7, but never had time to experiment much with it.

How would you compare Capture One to Lightroom as far as Raw capabilities and ease of use/learning curve? I'm thinking about switching?

Thanks,

Dan

I have Lightroom set up with print packages (Templates with multiple sheets). Unfortunately, Capture One does not support this, so I have to stay with LR. Capture One support confirmed this.

I have tethered wirelessly through a CamRanger which drops the photo files into a folder on my laptop. I then have Lightroom watch that folder and it imports the files into Lightroom. I have not had any problems with this tethering method. My laptop is a MacBook Pro and the camera a Canon. I can totally control the camera from the laptop with this setup.

Best,
