Has anyone used this version of the above lens? Anyone try version I and and II and able to compare the differences? And finally anyone use version II for video? Did you like it?
And I know this is a REAL big jump but can anyone compare (real life) images of the Panasonic lens to the new Tamron 18-400 mm lens?
I'm really not looking for links but UHHer's experiences.
I had shoulder surgery in Aug and am looking for something relatively light weight until I can get back to using my Leica/Panasonic 100-400 mm lens again (or afford the Nikon 300 f4 PF lens- whichever comes first ). I have been using the Nikon PF 70-300 f 5.6 mm lens but looking for a bit more reach.

I have not tried the new 100-300 II, but the old one could not hold a candle to your Leica 100-400. I rented one and declared, "meh." I understand the new one has faster AF and is Dual IS 2 compatible, but other than that, I dunno. Here's the press release from CES last January:
LUMIX G VARIO 100-300mm / F4.0-5.6 II / POWER O.I.S. (H-FSA100300)
*A successor to the H-FS100300
・Achieves handheld telephoto shooting with POWER O.I.S. and 5-axis Dual I.S.2.
・Max.240-fps sensor drive for high-speed, high-performance AF.
・Rugged, splash/dust-proof design for heavy field use.
・Supports high-quality video recording(as described above).
・The lens system comprises 17 elements in 12 groups including 1 ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lens.
・Multi coating to minimize ghosts and flaring.
The FSA100300 will be available in black for $649.99.
