Last month I indicated that I am thinking about upgrading my Canon 60D to an 80D. I don't want to go to a 7D or a full frame. I primarily use my 60D for travel photography, flowers at the local arboretum, and family pictures.
I asked if the 80D substantially better than the 60D. The answer was clearly that the 80D is much superior and if I have the budget for it, I should upgrade.
The 80D (body only) is currently on sale for $999. The 80D with the new 18-135 Nano lens is currently on sale for $1299. I can probably get $150 to 175 for the body only and $350 - 425 for trading in my 60D with my older (non-Nano, non-STEP) 18-135 lens .
My next question is whether the new 18-135 lens is so much better than my current lens that I should trade the lens in too. I have tried to research this, but have not found anything that provides a clear answer. It appears that the optical system is the same, but the Nano lens has better coatings and a better motor.
Thanks for your thoughts.
You should keep an eye on Canon Price Watch for sales. Just recently Ritz had a deal on a EOS 80D with 18-135mm Kit + PIXMA PRO-100 + SG-201 Photo Paper Semi-Gloss 13x19" (50 Sheets) Bundle for
$699 after a $350.00 rebate. It didn't last long.

IMO, if you shoot a lot of video or a lot of fast action stills, you will want the better AF that the latest edition can provide.

If you can get a brand new Canon 80D camera for $1000, you should consider buying that quickly. That must be a holiday sale price. After the holidays, the prices will go back up to the regular price. That camera is better than the latest Rebel Series, T7i. Which is a very good camera too. You can decide on the lens later, if you have budget restraints.
An exceptionally thorough, detailed review. Thanks, Chg Canon, for sharing the link.
Haydon,
Thanks for the great link. I'm in the market for upgrading my Canon gear and this site is awesome.

I use the 80D and the older 18-135, I would not up grade the lens until seeing how your current 18-135 works with the 80D. My favorite lens to use with the 80D is the Canon 70-300 nano.

After reading this post and researching the new 18-135mm nano lens, I found it on Craigslist for $150!! I snapped that bad boy up quicker than a rainbow-print at an LGBTQ festival.

I love this site. I've purchased a body and two lenses after being notified of them being available on Canon refurb list and at KEH.
