My wife takes a lot of pix of our dogs and needs a fairly inexpensive digital camera that has fast shutter speed and/or low lag time. Would like to keep it under $200, but that may not be realistic. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

I would suggest looking into the refurbished cameras available at the major camera stores, B and H, Adorama, etc. If you have a specific brand you like, check their refurbed/previously owned selections. I don't know if you'll find something in that price range, but it's worth a look.

I looked for just such a camera. I found thea Panasonic L10 has a 1.7 fast lens, but you pay for a 20 MP picture. Their "SCN" setting has a lot variables such as shooting through glass, distance, sports etc. Double the cost of what you were looking to pay - but it is an excellent camera with a fast shutter, and start-up.

The Panasonic L10 even has a "dog" setting.

Thanks, John. I figured I might have to stretch the wallet a bit. Will check it out.

If your interested in Canon go to their online store and checkout their refurbished cameras. They give the same warranty as a new one. Best way to buy....Rich

I think you are going to up your price limit by about $100. Look for a DSLR that has the ability to manually focus, and manually set your exposure settings. That should eliminate the shutter lag. On Canon’s refurb site I see some T5 kits at about $250.

I though that was a setting for dogs to use when taking photos....

Or try and find a Nikon D3200 with a 35mm 1.8 lens, or a 50mm 1.8.
Possibly ebay or craigslist. These lenses are good in low interior light
without a flash and allow a fast shutter speed. Might be able to find
that for around 300-350 if you are lucky.

Look for a Canon compact on ebay. As for the shutter lag, it's hard to tell ahead of time. The lag often decreases as the price increases. Check some camera reviews and comparisons. They often mention that. In reading reviews, check the camera's date. You'd be better off, generally speaking, buying a newer camera rather than an older one.

I know I'm going to be in trouble here, and it's a reference I personally would never use. Goofy Newfy said "I thought that was a setting for dogs to use when taking photos...." . Now I know it's me that will be in trouble, but the OP said he wanted the camera for his wife ........ !!!!! Apologies to ALL.
